My wifes sister just told me that she spent election night with two fundie McCain supporters
She said after Iowa came in the two fundies began speaking in tongues and praying for the angels to come down and convince the people in California to vote for McCain. She said after the election was called for Obama she was sure both of these two McCain supporters were going to go into seizures. They were foaming at the mouth. She said she was an inch from calling the cops and 911 she was so scared of what she was witnessing several times.

They kept repeating that Obama was the anti-Christ and that within two years the world was coming to an end.

46%.

2. Clearly...
... either:

1) God was not listening to their prayers, or

2) God doesn't exist.

Of course, don't confuse these fundies with any kind of logic.

... when it doesn't go their way, the wingnuts think there must have been some mistake.

I have to say, it must have been terrifying to witness two mental breakdowns like that.

At least in my house there were happy screams. Happy happy joy joy. :bounce:

3. Real Fundies voted for Obama
Last I checked, the End Times are GOOD for fundies. They get to go to Heaven while we get thrown into a lake of fire... forever. So, you'd think they would want to meet their maker and go to Heaven. A REAL fundy would vote for Obama because they get to Heaven sooner.

Maybe they are unbelievers...

32. I have read about John Nelson Darby who was the perpetrator of
the religious idea of the "any moment now" coming of Christ and the second coming and rapture. He lived in the 1830s Scotland/England. His writings can be read in "Collected Writings of J. N. Darby" edited by William Kelly. Reprinted 1972 and "Letters of J. N. D" also printed in 1971. A more important book for your interest is a book that pretty much debunks Darby is "The Incredible Cover-Up" by Dave MacPherson. These are all very old books and will probably be very hard to find. I have this last one which was published by Omega Publications of Medford, Oregon in 1980.

19. Toothless dog. Funny you should mention that
Took my old Keeshond in to have his teeth cleaned last year and the vet found a bad tooth that he had to pull. I called my wife on my cell to give her the details and she said in her sorrowful way, "Oh Don, please don't bring me an old toothless dog home." She was almost in tears.

We kid around with each other about our old toothless dog all the time now.

Real fundies don't give a damn about the environment, because whatever happens to it is all part of God's plan. The only issues they care much about are abortion and whatever's on the ballot that will fuck with gays/blacks/Mexicans.

there is no rational defense of "fundees" and I find it difficult to believe that anyone knows TWO who would vote for the antichrist... also - a fundee is not the person I would pick to fix environmental problems since they do not believe there are any environmental problems.

25. Have your sister-in-law write it down
The date and the loony pronouncements both. And then each month when she pops by to visit them, remind them of their predictions. Because otherwise, they'll "forget" and move on to some other hare-brained delusion. Just take a little snapshot and bring them back to it again and again. One of two things will happen, and one of them is that they'll start shaking off the snake oil they're being regularly fed. (The other, of course, is that they'll simply refuse to see reality, but if that's what happens, then your sister-in-law can walk away at least knowing she tried to bring them back to earth.)

would intervene and somehow make McCain president (a la Bush in 2000, maybe). If you believe that God takes a personal interest in fixing elections here in the U.S., and then the "wrong" guy wins (a guy you've been assured is a Marxist baby-killing Muslim terrorist), you're going to run into some serious cognitive dissonance.

The Christian right are hypocrites. They always stress freedom of religion, but only for them. The Mormons should immediately lose tax-exempt status for their churches after their development of Prop 8. And that's just for starters.

They determined he was the antichrist through biblical prophesy. So, when the antichrist comes into power just as prophesied, what difference does it make? Why even bother to vote since the outcome is already ordained.

Of course, I'm an atheist so its all BS to me.

My advice to them would not be to "MOVE ON", but to "Roll With It Baby"

When life is too much, roll with it, baby
Dont stop and lose your touch, oh no, baby
Hard times knocking on your door, Ill tell them you aint there no more
Get on through it, roll with it, baby
Luckll come and then slip away, youve gotta move, bring it back to stay

You just roll with it, baby, come on and just roll with it, baby
You and me, roll with it, baby, hang on and just roll with it, baby

The conservatives always seem to predict the future, but they never fill us in.

McCain - knew how to get BinLaden.

These people know when the world will end. Could we have the date and time? Cause that day I will eat all the bad foods we aren't supposed to eat. Nothing like clogging the arteries on the last day of earths existence.

69. Hard to imagine
Can't imagine being that mentally enslaved by ignorance and fear. Crazy people like these women and sarah palin who think the world is a magical place with space gods or holy books in 'reformed egyptian' or that said space gods favor one ethnic group over the other--i don't think we share the same reality. i've met some evangelicals, some true believers before, but never an actual nut like those two...

70. To the OP
I can't say I haven't heard of these sort of things and yes I find them quite disturbing.

One can only hope we continue to evolve as a people.

72. I would have tried to get them to wager on the two year thing
Bet them 100 bucks that the world isn't going to come to an end in two years. If it doesn't, you collect 100 bones. If it does, you still end up not having to pay.

win-win
