This isn't a GBCW. Because I'm not leaving by choice, and I'll be back to check my TU status the first chance I get. But my Bush Economy Chickens are
coming home to roost.

It seemed almost surreal when I called the cable company yesterday and told them to disconnect, not just my internet service ... but my cable TV too.

She was so conciliatory, almost motherly. "Oh my," her voice had a southern lilt with a soft caressing wisp, "this is like the 4th one of these today I've gotten from down around your way. You folks are really takin' this hard ain't ya?"

Nah. Not really. It's not like we didn't see it coming. I'm grateful it took longer for me, and so far I'm blessed in that I'm still employed. But in my business, you don't have only one revenue stream. One might be a salary from your full time job. That covers the regular nut and the insurance. Another stream might enable you to have a few luxuries around the house, and still another might pay off a charge card so you can splurge with clothes and stuff occasionally.

It's been a good run!

(kpete: really well said... (MHO)

3. I used the public library
for the time I was homeless due to divorce. They got to know me pretty well. It was the first time I got to use high-speed service and it was free.

4. Yeah, I'm just too addicted.
Our public library does have free WiFi, so that is a possibility. If I don't find a job by late January or so that might be something else to cut out. The free NetZero would be good, too.

2. Net Zero's crappy free dial up over NOTHING
I don't know what i'd do without my digital crack...

I've been online since before the there was an internet.
I'm an old BBSer (ok only 33) and I can't imagine being so disconnected...
I have many people I care about online, that I could never permanently cut off...

but yeah...I'm very fortunate in my situation, and I understand others arent.

I hope things go well, soon for Detroit.

5. I just checked them out -- they only give you 10 hours a month free.
Better than nothing, I bet, but ....

6. Any chance you live in an area where several homes/apartments
could share the cost of one internet connection and share the bandwidth of a wireless router?
