Arianna Huffington was not ideal as pinch hitter for Rachel
Sorry if someone has already brought this up................Granted, Arianna is magnificent in many ways but she is not a professional broadcaster. I wish Rachel Maddow would bring in Sam Seder when she's out.

1. Alison Stewart, who used to be Keith's regular sub, is in tonight

9. I love Alison. Where has she been for all these monts.
Seems like forever since she was subbing for Keith.

I always wanted her to have the morning time slot on MSNBC.

21. Alison is fab! I think she has a show on NPR now.
I'm not sure. Out here, 6 miles from the edge of the earth, we don't get NPR, but I believe that's what she's doing.

2. I like her as a guest, not as a host
Rachel excels at both. Has Sam even been a guest on her show?

13. Arianna was thoughtful and knew what she wanted from guests
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 01:45 PM by realpolitik
But she is slow in delivery at at times, and her accent is sometimes still a bit hard to parse for my injured brain.

4. You beat me to this.........
It was unwatchable to me.

Arianna is OK as a panelist once and awhile and her website holds some merit.

But as the fill-in host on an hour long show...not so much.

There are definitely better people....even if she goes with David Shuster or someone.

Although I love her commentary and opinions on other show - Just not HOST material

6. She appeared to be stiff and uncomfortable.
She is much better when she is a panelist and is able to speak her own mind. More articulate and passionate.

Not everyone can pull of the job of reading a script AND make it look natural.

7. I find her voice irritating after a few minutes.
It sounds like a falsetto going in and out. Love her and what she does, it's just a musical objection.

He always sounds so harsh and angry.

10. I respect Arianna
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 01:39 PM by LatteLibertine
and broadcasting is not her calling. Like another said, I like Alison Stewart a lot. I may like her as well as I like KO.

Currently, my favorite to watch bar none is Rachel. KO is likely my second.

11. Rachel was a bit rough when she first filled in for KO on Countdown.
But she got better and better each time and now she's fantastic.

12. I love and respect Arianna but.....................
They used Rachels script on her, and it is fast paced and meant to be delivered like a bull whip....Arianna should have been allowed to do her thing...Bill Mahr acted like a pain in the ass.

Arianna's legacy is etched in stone with Huffington Post the Internet Newspaper and she flippin showed Matt Drudge the door as how it should be done.

16. That was horrible...
...A broadcasting trainwreck that I'm quite sure created some raised voices in the MSNBC offices.

she really needs to use her big girl voice to be effective on air. IMHO

20. I'd like to see Gene Robinson give it a go
He's smart, personable, and gives hints of a decently wicked sense of humor.

I like reading Arianna, but broadcasting is just not her strong suit. Not as a host. She's fine as a guest.

24. I was excited because I like Arianna but
she needs lots of practice and custom scripting. The accent and the pacing also made viewing more of a chore than a pleasure.

25. It did seem like she was having an issue with the teleprompter.
It made her appear robotic.

When she appeared on Bill Maher and various shows like Hardball and KO, allowed to talk freely about what was on her mind, she was more animated and like herself.

26. Yes, Sam Seder would be excellent!
I haven't listened to Air America nearly as much since his show was replaced. In fact, our AAR affiliate in NYC replaced Lionel with an infomercial! That's how successful that move was.

27. Woo hoo!!!
Alison is subbing for Rachel tonight. I have missed Alison Stewart and her snark sooo much.

MSNBC should make her a "permanent" sub host when anyone can't make it, assuming MSNBC won't give her her own show.

It's great to see her again.:applause::bounce:
