I'm beginning to think we elected Republicans.
All this talk about Bush's directives being hard to undo has me wondering who's really in charge. I'm for reconciliation, but it's a two-way street. I'll forgive after they repent. So far, all I'm hearing is how we have to give McCain and Lieberman a say in our government. Who the fuck won? Obama better do what he was elected to do or this is gonna be one short honeymoon. I was going down to DC to celebrate the inauguration, but if this shit keeps up, I'm going down to protest.

15. that is unfair
Characterizing someone else's opinion as "what they want" as though it were merely some personal hankering, is a dishonest and hostile way to dismiss and trivialize what they are saying.

What makes your opinion larger and more important than a mere personal whim, but not the other person's opinion? Nothing.

2. Only babies expect insta-change. That diaper thing.
Democracy is actually hard, slow, slogging work. Sorry you're not up for it.

Tyranny is quite fast, because only one opinion counts. Sure that isn't what you really want?

6. SBM has every right to expect more from the incoming administration
Our nation has been "frog-boiled" for eight long years. We're actually getting used to the idea of our government being corrupt and breaking its own laws. This cannot be allowed to continue.

10. We elected POLITICIANS.
Politicians build alliances all the time and do so in order to get what they want passed.

Obama would be a fool to alienate people he can use later (which is why he is much better at this game than you are).

24. You obviously haven't been paying attention to politicians since, well, forever.
You don't know what promises have been extracted from Lieberman, you don't what promises have been extracted from McCain.

If Obama feels they aren't living up to any backroom agreements, that's up to him to deal with.

14. I agree completely
that son of a bitch was elected two weeks ago and we still haven't solved global warming. Shit, they haven't even called to deliver my emissions free vehicle yet at no charge of course. Pricks every last one of them.

Don't even get me started on the fact that they haven't arrested Karl Rove yet, I know that technically Obama can't do it but shit, we elected him two whole weeks ago.

:sarcasm: just in case it's really needed. The fucking whining around here is deafening and we won, pathetic.

Obama's Inauguration:

"An Historic Event"..that's all I keep
hearing. I don't see what the BIG deal is! It
happens every day..... When January 20, 2009 rolls
around, it'll just be another black family moving
into government housing.

38. The republicans can screw themselves if they act like little brats
Obama is offering a hand, but it doesn't meant we have to take shit from those who are uncooperative. We are the ones in charge of government, and it is in their interest to want to work with us if they want to get a say in government.

34. Definitely not, the Republicans are MUCH TOUGHER than our guys.
Please note that every time the Repukes even hint filibuster, our man Reid caves.

No unfortunately, the Repukes have a spine, now if our guys could just grow one or at least a bigger pair of cajones.

35. I felt that way in 2006 too
when we gave the Dems the House and the Senate, and I expected to see some accountability for all the crimes committed in the past six years - only to have Nancy and Harry declare that the table must be clean or poor little Georgie might upset their plans for 2008. They gave BushCo everything they wanted, caved time after time, and we still gave them bigger majorities in 2008. And now this - Lieberman gets everything he wants. Disappointment cannot even begin to describe the betrayal I feel. We literally have NO ONE representing We the People. Our Congress is so out of touch with its citizens it makes me sick.

37. I'm not the only one.
The vote to keep Lieberman in his Chair was not even close -- 42-13. Both Lieberman and Howard Dean agree that it was Obama's desires here that were instrumental in the outcome. Of Obama, Dean said: "He called the shots, and that's fine." That bodes really well for Congressional independence. Key Obama allies in the Senate -- including Dodd, Durbin and Kerry -- supported Lieberman.
Senate Democrats believe it's important to reward someone with a powerful Chairmanship who has been a vehement supporter of George Bush, the war in Iraq, the full panoply of anti-constitutional abuses, and an amplifier of the most toxic right-wing toxic points. At the same time, they consider it a good thing to scorn their supporters on what they consider to be "the Left." For anyone willing to hear it, they've made as clear and resounding a statement -- again -- about who they are and who they do and don't listen to.
