Hillary might reject State offer even if Barack Obama offers it to her
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1108/15738.html
<snip>
Hillary Rodham Clinton isn’t certain she would accept the Secretary of State post even if Barack Obama offers it to her, several people close to the former first lady say.

Press reports that portray Clinton as willing to accept the job – once the Obama transition team vets Bill Clinton’s philanthropic and business ventures – are inaccurate, one Clinton insider told Politico.

“A lot of the speculation and reporting is out ahead of the facts here,” said the person, who requested anonymity. “She is still weighing this, independent of President Clinton's work.”

Clinton, the person said, remains deeply “torn” between the possibility of serving in Obama’s cabinet and remaining in the Senate to “help pass health care and work on a broad range of domestic issues.”

That comment jibes with what others close to Clinton have been saying since the Secretary of State chatter began last week: that Clinton is conflicted and the deal far from done, despite screaming headlines in outlets including the U.K.’s Guardian newspaper claiming the offer was made and accepted.

1. It's all just so much speculation. I'm waiting all the talking heads out.
This does beg the question whether her spouse could pass the vetting process, or wants to.

2. I'd rather be a senator than SOS
You have more opportunity to be your own person and, if you're there long enough, wield some real power.

3. I think she's waiting for the results of the vetting before committing
If it doesn't go good, and Obama rejects her, she'll have the option of declining. At least that's the way I read this.

4. actually an awful lot of the spin is being done here
yup, right here in DU-city. How many posts do we see claiming "that woman" leaked it, and even after reading the article no matter what is said we see at least one person doing their level best to find some way to blame it all on her and heap more scorn on her.

5. Hillary has stated she will accept the position
It all depends upon the vetting process of Bill's finances and I expect that to pass just fine. There can't really be two people more investigated than the Clintons and found to be without fault..

6. richardson as sos
hillary needs to be in the senate. we would have three senators instead of two to fill in the next election cycle. the current political climate in illinois could mean a democrat will face a real challenge for obama`s senate seat

7. That would be a smart move on her part
Although I'd like to see her as SOS, I think that she would be wise to decline.

She has much more power in the Senate than as a member of the administration. If she wants to set herself up for 2012, the best place to do that is in the Senate.

I think either way, Obama has performed masterfully here. Brilliant political move on his part.
