5. What I think is funny is that...
Willacy County is home to The Armstrong Ranch.

Remember that place?

25. No, the Armstrong Ranch is not in Willacy County
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 07:06 PM by WolverineDG
I'm thinking Kleberg, but might be wrong, as Kleburg County is home to the King Ranch. On edit, it's in Kenedy County, close enough to Corpus for Ms. Armstrong to call the Corpus paper & get her pet reporter to cover up the story....too bad he was on vacay & she got connected with the health & fitness reporter who was on duty that weekend.....

34. We're both right
There is the Old Place (read down):

And Anne's place.

I have been to both and got confused (which is becoming an increasingly prevalent factor in my life).

I go there, and 95% of the folks there are Palin-loving, Bible Thumping, Me-first Imbeciles.

And then there's this 5%, made up of Lefty Texans out there that makes the rest of us look like weekend warriors. A lot of fight in that 5%...

I was down there this last April, when they were in bloom. I have a really cute pic of my autistic daughter standing in a patch of them at my in-law's place. It's at my desk at work.

Edit for spelling

The eyes of Texas are upon you,
All the live long day.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
You cannot get away.
Do not think you can escape them,
At night, or early in the morn'.
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
Till Gabriel blows his horn!

Who are all of those people in the third paragraph and how are they involved with Cheney and Gonzales? And how does The GEO GROUP fit in?

What specific acts have they all been indicted for?

12. here's a bit more
McALLEN, Texas — A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County's federal detention centers.

The indictment criticizes Cheney's investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and "at least misdemeanor assaults" on detainees by working through the prison companies.

Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.

Another indictment charges state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. with profiting from his public office by accepting honoraria from prison management companies.

I don't think Bush is going to be able to pardon the way he is expecting. Now it's time to study up on that stuff. It's been a while.

Running around revealing the name of a CIA agent, and the things Sibel Edmonds knows should provide some interesting next few years.

23. Hands up if you have money in Vanguard!
I do, and so do millions of other people.

It's a huge mutual fund company. They take money and invest in in hundreds, maybe thousands, of companies. That doesn't make me or any other Vanguard investor responsible for the acts of any of the companies Vanguard invests in. This is the largest stretch of a lawsuit.... ever.

29. You have no idea how much Cheney invested in Vanguard.
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 08:14 PM by intheflow
The article also doesn't say exactly what the conflict of interest is. For a possible scenario from the top of my head: If Cheney has the controlling share of Vanguard stock, and they have proof that he used his influence to demand Vanguard give risky loans (to, maybe, Halliburton), and then Cheney personally profited from the transaction but Vanguard got screwed, well, that would be a different story from Dem_rightnow's stock holdings with Vanguard. I mean, I don't know you, but odds are you only own a fraction of their stock compared to what Cheney and his ilk could own. And billions of dollars are missing in Iraq. I don't think my scenario is far-fetched at all. I'd bet money there is something to this.

The people commenting on that story are obviously left-wingers. I live in the Rio Grande Valley and the people here are wonderful and courageous. I am so happy that Texas stepped up to the plate. How about you guys stepping up to the plate and defending this brave move by this prosecutor and Grand Jury?
