To my congresscritter re the big three
Dear Congresswoman Davis:

There is a need to give the big three a bridge loan. There are reasons for this, including strategic reasons, such as who will build American Armor when the needs come? We are now on the edge of a deflationary spiral, and having three to fourteen million added to the unemployment numbers may very well throw the US into a depression Now this has to come with conditions:

1.- Business plan...

2.- All UNION health care has to be transfered to something like Tricare. This will reduce the cost per vehicle by about 2000 dollars. Why Tricare Prime? The system is in place, and quite brutally honest this has to be the FIRST step towards national health care.

3.- As long as these loans are in-effect, no person in management can make anywhere above what the President of the United States makes. They basically will be working under the good graces of the US Taxpayer, fine, they become public servants

4.- Vehicles produced have to have gas efficiencies equivalent to Europe and Japan. that is 45MPG and above... end of discussion

5.- If this means the end of SUVs so be it. But they must be given this bridge loan. We cannot afford another depression and the ball is quite frankly, in your court Oh and stop blaming labor. The UAW did not make this mess and the RIGHT wing is getting away with murder.

Sincerely,

*****

Oh and usual, staffers are useless... why do I bother calling them any longer? Don't know.

2. I'm with you on this one.
We are in fact staring at the abyss here. The 'we' meaning us working people. This is a different abyss than the one that all those nice folks with beamers and Connecticut mini-mansions were staring at back in September and October when they arranged their 700B (or is it 2T plus 700B?) welfare program. This is the abyss us peasants are about to get pushed off of.

3. They are connected... that is the problem
why chap 11 will become chap 7 very fast if they cannot get credit or guv' ment loans

That thing in Sept is partly responsible for this

Called commercial paper

5. They are.. at least those who get it
for the republicans this is a golden opportunity to bust unions

Why they are ideologically stuck in no help for these people... not until the unions make concessions, or better yet go away.

They don't get something Ford got, (in spite of all his defects) if the workers can afford my car, I have a market

But the parallels on all sides to what was said in between 1929 and 1936 is astounding and easy to predict... that includes the blue dogs

6. Indeed killing UAW is why they are so eager to let Detroit go down.
And I guess we will find out real soon now exactly how the new Democratic majority in the Senate is going to stack up. I expect that there is going to be a lot of anger here on DU starting in January, as our gutless wonders fail repeatedly to support the administration and/or defeat republican obstruction. I expect to be disappointed.

10. Working on it now.
What I have so far;

"As congress considers using taxpayer money from the treasury to provide assistance to US automakers, we, the undersigned, having a vested interest in the preservation and promotion of a stable economy, the creation and retention of jobs, responsibility for the environment, and the promotion of responsible business practices by industry executives through transparency and/or responsible regulation, do hereby demand that no fewer than the following five conditions be imposed, without negotiation or modification, upon any manufacturer or company that receives federal money for any purpose;"

Feel free to edit it up a bit... It could use it.

When we're done, I'll put it up.

11. hmm.... need something else for 5... eny ideas?
As congress considers using taxpayer money from the treasury to provide assistance to US automakers, we, the undersigned, having a vested interest in the preservation and promotion of a stable economy, the creation and retention of jobs, responsibility for the environment, and the promotion of responsible business practices by industry executives through transparency and/or responsible regulation, do hereby demand that no fewer than the following five conditions be imposed, without negotiation or modification, upon any manufacturer or company that receives federal money for any purpose;

1.- Any company or entity must submit an approved business plan to Congress for the public record. Failure to follow the submitted plan will result in immediate repayment of any and all funds originally provided to that company or entity by the federal government.

2.- All UNION health care must be transfered to Tricare. This will reduce the cost per vehicle by about 2000 dollars.

3.- Upon receipt of fund the salaries of all persons in management shall not exceed that of the President of the United States, As they basically will be working under the good graces of the US Taxpayer.

4.- No vehicle shall be produced with a gas efficiency rated below 45 mpg – the approximate equivalent to vehicles produced in Europe and Japan. The vehicles produced shall have such standards set that they will be competitive on the world market.

5.- If this means the end of SUVs so be it. But they must be given this bridge loan. We cannot afford another depression and the ball is quite frankly, in your court Oh and stop blaming labor. The UAW did not make this mess and the RIGHT wing is getting away with murder.
