Gulp!

Cash crunch II: The White House verified a news report that wine selling for $499 a bottle was served to the world's economic leaders Friday night. But they noted the White House got it at a wholesale price.

2. What a waste when two buck chuck is just as good.
You'd think a bunch of Repubs as dishonest as these ones would have put expensive labels on two buck chuck instead. btw What was the wholesale price, $498 a bottle?

21. Hey, some of us have to pay for "three buck Chuck."
Edited on Wed Nov-19-08 08:11 PM by Oregonian
For some reason, it costs a wee bit more here in Or-y-gone.

You goldurn eelitist! ;)

on edit: BTW, as I type this, I am sipping on a glass of fine Crane Lake Chardonnay --> cost me maybe $3.50. What a splurge!

25. Well, I live in poor man's wine country on the Central Coast of California
and there are so many fine wines that are so cheap. (Rich man's wine country is Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino up north.)
Also, my family gets complimentary cases of wine from friends who own a winery. In my life time I have experienced many fine imported wines and IMHO what we produce here domestically is every bit as good.

it may not have been on the table...

26. It seems suspicious to me because I was always under the impression that
wines that expensive are sold at auction. There is no wholesale.

33. Wholesale government price would be at least double the retail
if we base it on previous pricing of wine to nuts and bolts and hammers etc. Well ... actually... we usually pay much more than doubling retail ...

31. Please, My wife and I don't drink many wines over $13 (sale price) & 2 buck chuck doesn't compare
I had a friend swear by the stuff to where we bought a couple bottles one time. Yeah, it's drinkable but it tastes like what one would expect $2 wine to taste like . When you can get a good Beaujolais for $9 why drink swill?

34. Two buck chuck can vary.
You have to get the right batch. The best is excellent, but like I said it's a crap shoot to get the right batch.

I saw her today at the reception
A glass of wine in her hand
I knew she was gonna meet her connection
At her feet was a footloose man
You cant always get what you want
You cant always get what you want
You cant always get what you want
But if you try sometimes well you might find
You get what you need

BTW: Here is the math on a wasted "pour" for GWB. Assume a standard 5-oz pour and 24 oz bottle, that photo pour was worth about $100 at $499/bottle.

I use a small funnel to get the dregs on my last glass of cheap Shiraz back in the bottle for tomorrow night .. or tomorrow breakfast, if the news is worse than usual.

He doesn't know the difference after a few scotches. It's probably why he looks so hung over all the time. Cheap wine will do that to you.
