1. Daschle has nothing to lose
by fighting for single-payer.

Each person that replies to this sub-thread, that is....

As long as you all agree to pay me $10 dollars a piece if he doesn't.

4. I don't know if Universal Healthcare is even a priority for Daschle.
From an article written in June, 2008 (http://www.nationaljournal.com/congressdaily/cda_20080605_5814.php),
Daschle outlined some of those ideas in his little-noticed book, "http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Critical/Tom-Daschle/e/9780312383015/?itm=1">Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis," which was published in February. In it he proposes a Federal Health Board to "create a public framework for a largely private health-care delivery system.

Also, from Wikip*dia,
Daschle has not made intentions clear as to whether or not he will run again for office; however, he has signed on as a Senior Policy Advisor with the K Street law firm Alston & Bird. Health care interests, including CVS Caremark, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, Abbott Laboratories and HealthSouth, are among the firm's lobbying clients. The firm was paid $5.8 million between January and September 2008 to represent companies and associations before Congress and the executive branch, with 60 percent of that money coming from the health industry.
