It's the Unions FAULT... so we are told
we have been told this since 1949 when Taft Hatley was passed

We have been told this when Ronnie Reagan destroyed the Air Traffic Controllers

And we are being told this right now

This is a war from the RIGHT against American Labor

And the problem is that American Labor is not well organized to resist this attack and some of it, is its own damn fault... voting for Republicans on Social Issues for example... yes Reagan Democrats are about to harvest the seeds they lay a generation ago.

We need the RIGHT to organize

And we need that right in every state of the Union... no questions asked

We need Taft Hatley repealed

And I don't expect to see this.

On the bright side, yes there is one... this will bring about the changes in this country

JFK put it best

Those who try to stop change by peaceful means assure a violent change

No, I am not hopeful... truthfully never was... but now that the Republicans have successfully blocked the loan to the big three I know the depression is assured. Out of that mess something else will emerge, but the history of that is yet to be written

1. You are absolutely right. They are blaming the cost of the union benefits
and not the horrific decisions made by management...and the obscene salaries and golden parachutes that management has had.

This is union busting at its most disgusting, because they are willing to take down the entire country in order to accomplish this.

3. I don't think the republicans realize it
they truly believe in the "forces of the marketplace" religion

Mark my words, they will blame Obama for this failure as well, but we may see more than just votes at a local union hall... and we will see soup lines

Me... tightening the belt even further.

10. There is validity to the argument that the repukes are not doing anything now
so when the shit hits the fan, they can blame Obama.

11. They are, by not doing a thing, they are helping to kill the big three
for the sake of the marketplace religion

Adam Smith Amen

Not that Adam Smith would agree with anything these yahoos say, not that they have ever read the Wealth of Nations, but invincible hand sounds cool,..

2. Never mind those criminal salaries of the CEO and other executives
That has no impact on the profit of the company.

This is the end game for the right wings 30 year attack on organized labor. It all started with Reagan and the Air Traffic Controllers and then the Meat Processing industry and has been a slow steady assault since.

The UAW is the golden ring, if they can knock it out, they will have another bu$h mission accomplished.

5. History tells me that they are only ensuring a violent revolution
this country is already on the edge of a civil war (the hot kind, we have seen the cold one raging for a decade or so)

So again, I am all but hopeful

4. With the new admin and majority in congress labor is set to make some gains
and the repubs and pro-corporate allies see this and are out to do as much damage as possible. In the next few months we will pass and sign into law the Employee Free Choice Act and we will have a worker friendly Secretary of Labor.

Organized labor has a long and rich history in the United States. She has stumbled many times but has never fell and she will not this time. The UAW will weather this attack and organized labor will be stronger for it in the long run.

6. I fear that if they manage to get the three to the chapt 11
there goes the UAW... chapter seven, there goes the vehicle industry (of native nature that is, which also has STRATEGIC implications)

9. I know that, you know that... but the root actually is
lack of credit, and these companies cannot get commercial paper

The money and the authority is there... by the way, and LIBOR did go down... but for reasons that I don't get yet that has not translated into
loosening standards.

So yes, that bailout and this one are related

Now if BUSH wanted to do something about this, the authority is there in the TARP... to use the money as they see fit, but Bush has put on pressure NOT to do it on ideological purity grounds

7. Oh and the Employee Free Choice Act must come with the repeal of Taft Hatley
but that goes without saying
