Ah, the pathos! The bathos! The beggars arriving in their corporate jets, bags open, sitting before the House committee, pleading for a hand-out, a bit of sympathy, a sandwich maybe, anything.

Feh! The nerve of these rodents. For decades arrogant American auto executives were begged to clean up (literally) their acts; to focus on building affordable vehicles; to increase mileage; decrease pollution. Their answer? Factories were closed, production was moved to countries with cheaper labor, the American worker was told to go fuck himself - that he or she was the problem, that the unions were pushing the corporations to the brink, that lawmakers would be making a huge mistake if they insisted the auto companies were to act responsibility. Meanwhile, the congressional delegation from Michigan - Democrats as well as Republicans - did everything it could to prevent the very actions needed to ensure the industry could survive. The Senators and Representatives were willing whores obeying every demand of their pimps in the boardrooms of Detroit. Pitiful. Disgusting.

And now Congress is considering a bail-out? $25 billion? Where were these "lawmakers" when the auto executives were intimidating them into believing simple mileage increases or catalytic converters or safety modifications or anything reasonable or sensible added to the design of Detroit's gas-eating behemoths would somehow sink the entire industry. What sort of hearings were held then? Were irony, sarcasm and what passes for Congressional wit on display during those hearings?

Let them die. Let the mismanagement and the arrogance and the disdain come home to roost. The auto workers and those in the tangential feeder industries will be back to work as soon as foreign auto companies come - and they will - to build cars and trucks that make sense.

Good-bye, crazy people! Good-bye people who designed the execrable Hummer, and cars that got 14 miles per gallon, and pick-up trucks that looked like military transport vehicles, and "muscle" cars only a red-neck teen-age boy could appreciate, and "pimp-mobiles" built for the bloated egos of rap stars and professional basketball players.

Get back on your corporate jets and go home to your gated communities in Bloomfield Hills and have another extra-dry martini. What's good for General Motors is not good for America.
