Poll question: Hillary as Sec of State - straw [POLL]
Assuming this isn't all a gigantic swerve, it looks like Hillary is going to be offered the Sec of State position in Obama's administration. Obviously, it's Obama's right to appoint whomever he wants but I'm curious how you guys feel about it. Hence, as a quick "State of DU", this poll:

1. How many U.S. Senators do you know
that would give up their current job to serve as Sec of State? I can't remember any. Maybe she's just taking her time to refuse the job so as not to act ungrateful for it being offered.

4. That's a reasonable position
Personally, I'd prefer John Kerry at State and Hillary at Health (I thought her healthcare plan was superior to Obama's).

5. She voted for war and she got it... so? Why not put her in HHS?
Then maybe we'll GET IT!! Health Insurance, that is. ;)

Universal Health Care was her 'thing' for years, so
it boggles one's mind, that she wouldn't be on that

like... well, you know! ;)

6. I'm greatful that senator Kennedy gave her a graceful exit strategy
if she works with him NO ONE will consider it a snub to Obama.

There are advantages as having her as SoS.... but I REALLY would rather have THAT pit bull working for MS in the Senate, esp on the health care issue.... and I sincerely mean that in the BEST possible light!!!

She IS, once the latches on she doesn't let go! I WANT that in a democratic senator, they've been too fucking spineless for too long, i hope she'll FORCE the spine back into our party! And the best place for that is where she is now!

I think it was very gracious (and smart) to offer SoS to Hilary, but I think while she'd be great, she should turn him down... gently... I also think Lieberman should be offered ambassador to Israel... one he can go home, and two.... NO MORE LIEBERMAN

10. I'm with you Breeze
There's no path to it being a good choice, and this bullshit political theater coming out that "she's not sure" should disqualify her out of hand. This isn't about the Clintons fucking brand name anymore. We have work to do.

13. She should stay in the Senate
She'll have more independence and the chance to force more of an impact on Domestic policy, which I think is a greater strength for her than foreign policy, but hey, I like Bill Richardson... =)

SoS is not a stepping stone to the POTUS. Besides which, I'd be amazed if lasts more than 4 years. Obama imported his "experience" with Biden and filled a perceived gap. In 4 years, he'll get a younger VP, that will be more likely to succeed in 2016. HRC is great, and I hate to be age-biased, but I really do think that she will not win the primary in 2016, if she chooses to run. The Democratic Party has crossed a generational line.

These opinions are mine alone and probably filled with hypocrisy, since I'm no smarter than you are. =)

15. This is all a gigantic swerve
Maybe the administration figured that if they stage - for the third fucking time - another "saving us from teh evil Clintoris" psychodrama, the fanbase would be placated and not grumble too much about Lieberman, Paulson, etc.

No, I have no proof of this, but since unsubstantiated conspiracy theorizing is all the rage these days, I figured I'd present an alternative viewpoint.

22. Gotta trust Obama on this one. I'm sure he has his reasons
He can't think it's a cost-free choice. He would only do this if he had a reason to think this will get his agenda met effectively. She wouldn't be my choice, but she is a problem solver and she is a party elder by any reasonable standard. This is more than just "better inside the tent pissing out." She was a loyal supporter after she dropped out of the race. And she has buckets of gravitas.

She's not a bad choice. And it will certainly help keep the rabid Right frothing themselves into idiocy every few weeks or so. She must be worth the drama for some reason. I still trust my new president.
