The 46 year old democrat who defeated Ted Stevens to become Democratic Senator of Alaska.

- First Mayor of Anchorage to be elected to U. S. Senate
- First Croatian-American elected to the U. S. Senate
- Son of Nick Begich who was killed in a 1972 plane wreck in Alaska with Louisiana Representative Hale Boggs, father of Cokie Roberts.
- Interestingly Rep Boggs was driven to his first leg of the 1972 flight by a young democrat Bill Clinton. He gets in all the pictures.

Nick Begich's seat in Congress has been occupied by Don Young ever since.
