Banker beats landlord's dog (with 7 wk old pups) to death (warning: infuriating)
Yes he is going to jail but this still makes one's blood boil...

Tafik Habib, 40, pleaded guilty to "overdriving, torturing and injuring" an animal, a violation of the state's agricultural law. He admitted to the court he kicked the 15-pound (6.8-kilogram) dog and beat her with an umbrella.

The terrier, named Sasha, was nearly 3 years old and had a litter of 7-week-old puppies. Her owner, Elefterios Bonaros, wept profusely as Habib pleaded guilty to killing the dog on Jan. 10 in Bonaros' Upper West Side Manhattan apartment.

...
"When I got back I knew something was wrong because the dogs didn't come to meet me," he said in the courthouse lobby. Bonaros said he found Sasha inside, covered with a towel; her head had been smashed. Sasha's mate, Rocky, died a few months later, he said.

4. The article states the pups are ok
If I were the judge I think community service in an animal shelter would have been more fitting a punishment.

6. Hah? Would you think a proper punishment for a child abuser
is to do a community service in a child care?

7. I have to disagree -- this guy should be nowhere near dogs
I wish the owner had taken this to trial -- the guy was eligible for a year in prison. Community service is just wrong -- why should volunteers have to work side by side with f*ing criminals and psychos like this guy?

13. The Cruel Death of my dog Sasha by Murderer Tafik Habib
I would like to thank all that have posted here with regards
to the horrific murder by Tafik Habib of my Beautiful Boston
Terrier Sasha. Tafik pleaded guilty by plea bargain with the
DA's Office I did not at any time have a choice, all along I
wanted it to go to trial, but did not have the aurhority to
request such, regardless that I was Sasha's owner. What I hope
is that all that will read this will write INS in New York and
have this Murderer deported back to his country of Columbia,
Tafik Habib is here on a work visa and was fired from his job
in March from his employment HBSC Bank becuase of the arrest
in Jan when he murdered without remorse my beautiful Sasha.
Sasha all she ever did was wanting to give and recieve love in
the form of kisses and hugs, always waking me in the morning
with her Good Morning Kisses now I ll never have again. This
man is a true monster who has voiced his dislike for dogs as
well as towards woman. He was given 175 hours of community
service at a AIDS Hospice called Housing Works (God help those
patients and hope he is carefully supervised not to kill
another living being as he has no respect for life proven by
his own admission of killing my dog). Please also write
Congress to Federally change the laws regarding the punishment
given. This punishment was lame - 6 days for killing a life
totally ridiculous, should have been the maximum allowed one
year and that is troo very little for the crime he committed,
the sentance is a slap in my face and soul of my Sasha as well
as everyones face that has ever owned or loved an animal. I
lost Sasha's sire Rocky in September Rocky had seisures
starting the day after she died and died in my arms Sept 20.
Again thank you for your thoughts and feel free to email me at
ucted@aol.com to share your thoughts driectly with me...In
loving memory of my Sasha Teddy Bonaros

16. We are very sorry for your loss
Currently in our home we have 2 dogs, 1 cat, 3 kittens, and one very large rabbit. If anyone treated ANY of them the way Mr. Habib did your Sasha I would be furious at a sentence of 6 days plus community service. I will write to whatever authorities seem appropriate to express my opinion on the laxity of the sentence, in the hopes that the laws can be toughened enough to act as deterrent to anyone else acting as he did. I doubt that anything will be done to correct his sentence, but I should think at the very least his VISA will be revoked.

Take care Mr. Bonaros, and know that you have many fellow travelers in the world.

18. Sorry for your loss, Teddy...btw, welcome to DU!
If I wrote the law, that canicidal maniac would get 20 years in the pen, not just a slap on the wrist. People, if you want to call them people, who kill animals in cold blood rarely stop there.

That bastard lost his job and he decided to take his frustrations out on a helpless little animal--your beloved little girl!? That burns me up!!! :grr:

19. Sorry for your loss. Personally, I'd sue him.
Yup, great strides have been made in the civil court's pain and suffering department for the deliberate killing of a beloved pet.

His work visa should be yanked now that he's a felon.

If it was one of my dogs, it would have taken an extreme amount of restraint not to kill that guy.

24. My condolences - I'm so sorry for your loss.
It's beyond our comprehension here how someone could do something like this to an innocent animal - and I don't want to understand it, I don't ever want to be the kind of person who could even think of such a thing. I agree, the sentence is an insult too. An AIDS hospice? That scumbag has already proved beyond a doubt he doesn't have a shred of empathy or compassion, why the hell would they send him to do a job that requires those things above all else? What "community" does that "serve" - the sociopath "community?"

So sorry for you loss. How do we write to INS to get this sleaze-ball deported? Do you have an address to post or a contact name at INS?
I did a search but I can only find a pretty generic US emall address.

"What I hope is that all that will read this will write INS in New
York and have this Murderer deported back to his country of
Columbia, Tafik Habib is here on a work visa and was fired
from his job in March"
