just got back to my house and sat down at my desk and felt a tremor....
we had a 6.2 quake here yesterday, so i guess it was just an after shock. my whole desk shook and my computer monitor flapped around a little.

5. Apparently you live somewhere that has few quakes; or are new to a place that has them.
Aftershocks happen. If it gets too violent, get under something (like that desk) or into a doorway.

15. with the crappy construction in this country, when we get a big one.....
....the old houses in the rural areas tend to crack and crumble and our shitty roads sometimes cave in.

6. It's not showing up on ANSS yet but there was a 5.0 within the last hour in Baja CA.
Too far to be felt in your area no doubt.

9. As a native Californian, I feel like an expert in this area...
There will be aftershocks. Some nearly as big as the initial shock. There is a somewhat small chance that the larger shock was a pre-shock, and another even bigger shock could be on the way. In any case, it's time to stock up on can goods and water. Flip top cans, or be sure you have extra hand operated can openers. A supply just inside the garage door is an ideal spot, but it is good to have a few stashes. If you are taking prescription drugs, make sure you have a supply of them as well. And food for any pets. And a battery operated radio... and batteries...

You should really Google up some Earthquake preparedness information! This tidbit is but chapter headings in what there is to know.

I felt my first while playing hopscotch on the sidewalk in front of my house, and they have been a fascination all my life.

Be safe!

16. I'm pretty fined tuned to that sound now
I generally hear it before I feel it these days. The last one I felt was a 4. something... I was halfway up a high rise in downtown Los Angeles... it was very, very noisy. I'd much rather be home during Earthquakes!
