Petland linked to puppy mills
Here's a chain to boycott:

After an eight-month investigation, the Humane Society of the United States accused Petland, the national pet store chain, of selling dogs bred under appalling conditions at puppy mills around the country.

3. I use PetsMart, they only sell small animals like fish
they use the local animal shelter for "selling" pets. We got our cat from them.

4. I noticed that
The one near me will have the local shelters bring some pets to the store to encourage adoption.

6. About 80% money raised for Katrina went to fundraisers and not animals or sheltersm
Additonal information to understand about HSUS:
During 2006, HSUS contributed only 4.2 percent of its budget to organizations that operate hands-on dog and cat shelters. In reality, HSUS is a wealthy animal-rights lobbying organization (the largest and richest) that agitates for the same goals as PETA and other radical groups.

HSUS raised money online with the false promise that it would “care for the dogs in the Michael Vick case.” The New York Times later reported HSUS wasn’t caring for Vick’s dogs at all. HSUS president Wayne Pacelle told the Times that his group recommended that government officals “put down” the dogs rather than try to adopt them out.

HSUS senior management team includes a former spokesman for the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), a criminal group designated as “terrorists” by the FBI.

Less than 12% of money raised for HSUS by California telemarketers actually ends up in HSUS’s bank account. The rest is kept by professional fundraisers.
HSUS raised a reported $34 million in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, supposedly to help reunite lost pets with their owners. Little of that money was spent for its intended purpose. Public disclosures of the disposition of the $34 million in Katrina-related donations add up to less than $7 million.

11. Funny that John Goodwin is the best ammo they can come up with.
Most of the monetary information is largely inaccurate, but whatever.

7. Okaaayyy. I'm disinclined to believe them. Especially since they dragged PETA into the discussion.
BTW, all three of our dogs are rescues. There's no reason on earth to buy a puppy from any pet store, IMHO.

8. All pet stores get their puppies from mills! I'm surprised that everyone
doesn't already KNOW THAT! Yea, I know, if you ask the people in the stores, they'll tell you NO, but either they don't know, or they're lying! If you are set on getting a pure breed dog and don't want to deal with a shelter or a rescue group, there are ligitimate breeders for every breed of dog. They not only keep their animals clean, healthy and happy, but they do all the testing necessary to make sure they sell you a healthy puppy, free from genetic diseases.

NEVER BUY A DOG OR CAT FROM A PET STORE!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a volunteer foster mom for Bichon Rescue for 8 years, and have fostered quite a few dogs that were rescued from closed down puppy mills. You wouldn't believe the problems some of these furbabies have. Many of the puppies our group has rescued had to have severe heart murmers corrected...at a cost of almost $3,000 each! PLEASE, don't buy any from a pet store. If everyone stops buying them, the stores will stop supporting the mills!
