DU Investors: Question about the drop of the indices this week

This could be wrong, but I thought that last Friday was the last day for customers of hedge funds to submit their redemption requests. Does this mean that Friday was the last day we should have anticipated major forced-selling by the hedge funds?

The reason I'm asking is, I'm trying to figure out who the big sellers are these past few days and, if these are not hedge funds, whether or not we could possibly be seeing sheer, genuine panic of a broader range of investors rather than quantitative selling or high-tech insitutional investors.

Some economists have been saying that that sort of selling could actually be a good sign, as it sometimes portends a relenting in these deep downturns.
