Mr. President Elect, why not re-examine the Homeland Security concept?

If there is one thing which really drives home the loss of freedoms Americans have experienced under Bush, it is the concept that we actually live under the watchful eyes (and ears) of a governmental entity with the name "Homeland Security". A more Orwellian name or idea couldn't possibly exist. That's unless you leave out "Enhanced Interrogation Techniques", of course.

I see in today's headlines that Barack Obama is likely to choose Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano for the job of secretary of homeland security . I'm sure that, all other factors considered, she would be an excellent choice, particularly when compared with the current Secretary. And I understand that the DHS was created by Congress and would likely require their vote for a re-invention.

Still, I think a clear message could be sent by you to the congress and the people, Mr. President (why not just begin calling you that now): there is no place on earth America can better spread the idea of freedom and democracy than right here at home.

Or at least, for Orwell's sake, change the name. He's got to be getting dizzy by now with all that spinning.
