Somali piracy started because THE WORLD STOLE THEIR FISH...
So talking about pulverizing them (as suggested in another thread on this forum) is kind of ironic. We did not pulverize the people that stole their fish. The world created this situation by killing their fishing industry and condemning them to starvation.

Somali Pirates Tell Their Side: They Want Only Money

The piracy industry started about 10 to 15 years ago, Somali officials said, as a response to illegal fishing. Somalia’s central government imploded in 1991, casting the country into chaos. With no patrols along the shoreline, Somalia’s tuna-rich waters were soon plundered by commercial fishing fleets from around the world. Somali fishermen armed themselves and turned into vigilantes by confronting illegal fishing boats and demanding that they pay a tax.

“From there, they got greedy,” said Mohamed Osman Aden, a Somali diplomat in Kenya. “They starting attacking everyone.”

3. I don't know what the solution is. But some people are suggesting to burn them with phosphorous
instead of trying to help the root of the problem, which is the situation in Somalia, makes me very sad. Somalia is a stain in the history of humanity. I know also that the USA is streched thin, but Africa has always been in the back burner for any kind of significant help from the West.

6. If you are hungry and you start stealing, it is hard to stop when it is successful. You can buy a
lot more than food with all that money. I don't think there is a lot of industry or jobs in Somalia right now.

11. For the same reason undocumented immigrants come here,
Our corporations shipped our jobs to their country then work them for less than slave wages, then destroy their land with pollution( I know other factors are in play too,I am talking about gross factors)
Then they cannot feed their family on either the wages or the land that has factory pollution spoiling the water and the land itself. Then a--hole Amerikkkans bitch..it is not the immigrant or the pirates(no i dont agree with going a viking either, but I might if my kids were starving) at fault it is the corporations that screw Us and them over. We should be angry and take on the corpses, correct their behavior, dissolve or nationalize them and make sure they operate in their sphere of specialty and adhere to some ethics..pherhaps even make yale teach a real ethics course instead of handing out MBAs to make them legal eagle pirates.

10. Piracy has always been about money, nothing else,
and the best way to deal with pirates is to shoot them. With large naval guns. Let the fucking pirates deal with 9-inch guns or AEGIS missiles with their burp guns and AK-47s. Andre the Giant meets a midget.

12. I am sure that I have heard something that was more unhelpful
or disgusting than the wholesale slaughter of people who have turned to piracy after the western powers completely decimated their livelihood.

But nothing comes to mind at the moment.
