1. I believe there will be some type of $ thrown their way |
|
I believe it will be some sort of loan program with much oversight. Maybe I'm just a cock eyed optimist, but that's how I think it'll happen.

either it will go into Chapter 11 and be handled by court appointed directors
OR
the minimal bailout will come out of the existing $700 Billion already approved.

5. Voted yes but my number dropped immediately. |
|
This is habitual and does not give off good vibes from the site.
The number was 29. I voted the number changed to 30 and while I was checking--it changed back to 29.

6. I hope so, 3 million workers on unemployment atop 7 million already, not good |
|
and the 3 million is a conservative estimate btw. At 1000 bucks per month, give or take that would be 3 billion bucks per month just for unemployment. Then there's the healthcare that goes missing so they have to go to emergency rooms - more taxpayer money. To me, 25 billion is peanuts compared to what it would cost to lose that many jobs. Oh, not to mention - more homes being foreclosed! Plus, human misery can't be counted in dollars.

Nancy Pelosi telling the Auto Companies to bring in a business plan within 12 days for consideration is a ploy to keep the serving Democrats looking good. The house Republicans are still opposed as well as is GWB.
I predict nothing will come of it till Barak Obama is sworn in. Even then I am still opposed to it. It would be like throwing money down the garbage disposal. There has to be a fundamental shift it the business plan, management decisions and union agreements for the US Auto companies to survive in this recessionary economy.

8. I'd like to see a bailout with a twist. |
|
First, let me say that I think it's totally ironic that at this day and age, we're clamoring to SAVE a company and at the same time screaming "more cars!".
I think the gubmint should sponsor a design competition. X amount of days to come up with the design for a platform capable of carrying three people 100 miles on a gallon of gas. When the big three submit their designs, the best is chosen and its patent can be bought by the gubmint and licensed to the big three for use in their new vehicles. Whichever of the big three submits the winning design gets the lion's share of the money. If two collaborate, split it accordingly. If all three collaborate, divide it equally.
A standard platform with a fuel efficient powertrain. Let the companies decide what body style and what options they want to bolt on top of it. Make them use it as a condition of getting bailout money. Require them to make 75% of their cars on that platform.
Oh, and one design requirement should be that the car be made out of recycled cars.
Lastly, it must be priced so that it can be bought by the masses. Maybe gubmint could subsidize its purchase. Also, a price credit based on the difference between gas mileage on what you're trading in, and what you're buying. Trade-ins should go directly into the recycling process.

9. Perhaps, post-bankruptcy |
|
The Big 3 simply can't continue to operate in the way they are operating. They're asking for several times their market capitalization and can't even guarantee it will keep them in business for another full year, when they'll come back asking for handouts. They need serious culture change, and I can't see it happening with the current management and without the shock of Chapter 11. They're asking for handouts and flying private jets to do so... they just don't get it. They'll need a serious kick in the rear before they do.
