Breaking: DA in Cheney case to be taken into protective custody
After being AWOL from the job and violating sections of the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct - Willacy County District Attorney Juan Angel "Johnny Guerra" has been replaced in five (5) of the nine (9) criminal cases he convinced a grand jury to file against Vice President Dick Cheney, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, former U.S. Attorney Mervyn Mosbacker, state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr., District Judges Migdalia Lopez and Janet Leal, former Willacy D.A. Gustavo "Gus" Garza, and District Clerk Gilbert Lozano, along with GEO Corp., and former warden David Forrest.

Presiding District Judge J.Manuel Banales has appointed Asst. Cameron County to Alfredo Padilla to handle the cases for Mosbacker, Lopez, Leal, Garza, and Lozano due to Guerra being absent from court.

The judge found Guerra violated Section 3.08 of the rules of professional conduct, in that a victim (Guerra) can't prosecute five of the cases, where he could be called as a wtiness.

Guerra has telephoned in from Mexico and Houston to selected Texas media outlets claiming he did not know he was supposed to be in court yesterday afternoon.

The Texas Rangers will likely wait for Guerra to cross the international bridge near Reynosa or catch him driving on U.S. 77 southbound from Houston; either tonight or early tomorrow. He will then be taken into protective custody and escorted to court in Raymondville tomorrow morning.

2.  Which 5 has he been replaced in?
It doesn't say. I am assuming it is the local officials that he has a history with. I hope he is still on cheney/gonzo. And, he will need the protection.

Judge Bañales to get a ticket for accident causing serious injury to a TxDOT worker

District Judge J. Manuel Bañales will receive a traffic ticket but no criminal charges are being considered in his June 5 collision with a highway department worker, a police captain said Friday.

The judge's Cadillac DeVille was traveling 71 mph six seconds before the collision, according to information downloaded Friday from an electronic information storage device in the car known as a "black box," police Capt. Mike McKinney said. Black boxes are standard on recent-model cars.

The collision occurred on a curve where the posted recommended speed is 40 mph, but the legal limit is 65 mph, McKinney said. The recommended speeds on curves such as the accident site are on yellow advisory signs posted by the Texas Department of Transportation to increase safety, but are not enforceable, McKinney said.

Bañales struck man in 1990 accident

Eighteen years ago, a gold Chrysler Fifth Avenue driven by District Judge J. Manuel Bañales struck a Robstown man with mental disabilities who was crossing the street near Corpus Christi City Hall.

Bañales was not ticketed for the incident and the pedestrian, Francisco "Frank" Peña, then 31, was found at fault. He was taken to Memorial Medical Center with cuts, scrapes and a broken leg.

Bañales and his lawyer, Ron Barroso, did not return phone calls Thursday.

The Caller-Times filed a public records request with the Corpus Christi Police Department on June 9 seeking a police accident report and other documents related to the incident. The police department wasn't able to fill the request because, under department guidelines, traffic accident reports are purged after two years, according to police.

26. In this case, I just copied and pasted. In Word, however, you can
go to 'Insert' and go to 'Symbol' and select "ñ". It will show up in your document. I am not aware of a way to add the tilde (~) in DU messages, but you can type in Word and cut and paste. :hi:

5. Protective custody?
It sounds like they're retaining him to make sure that he shows up in court, yet they are referring to it as "protective custody".

Are the people who been assigned to the five other cases also in protective custody?

Strange story.

Guerra has telephoned in from Mexico and Houston to selected Texas media outlets claiming he did not know he was supposed to be in court yesterday afternoon.

.......

I will have to remember that one next time I am called into traffic court - Judge I forgot? Think it will work for me!

This guy is under indictment himself and will likely be disbarred for being certifiable.
