I think the next DEMOCRATIC with capital letters movement will be conducted on the INTERNET. |
|
Obama used the bloggers on the left and people communicating through the internet to obtain money and workers for his campaign. But I think that this has created an enormous opportunity to create a real democratic, more leftist movement.
I still hope that Obama will respond to liberal concerns, but IF the liberal democrats on the web are not satisfied with the Obama administration's performance, and they confirm that THEY CAN BE USED AND FORGOTTEN--"after all, where are they going to go?" (paraphrasing people in Washington referring to the disgust of the blogosphere at the Lieberman situation), I have no doubt that the netroots are going to have their own movement leading to more participation in government and it decisions.
I came to this conclusion after watching James Boyce (blogger with Huffington Post) on MSNBC being poo-pooed by a talking head.

2. I am just an spectator at this point. Obama has not done ANYTHING yet and he has to have an |
|
opportunity to try. We must give him time. I must admit, the Lieberman crap really made me mad, but I have been upset at the spineless Democrats in congress for the longest time. I do vote Democrat because I do not see any other valid option at this time. I have never had any illusions about Obama being a left-leaning Democrat but he has some good ideas and the intelligence to do good. His cabinet is shaping to be more righty than I expected but I cannot criticize the experience. And he needs to hit the ground running.
But at this moment I am a single voter and I vote in a state in which being a liberal has absolutely no effect on the results for the electoral college which, in my opinion, is an anacronism.

3. I've been wondering about the lieberman thing myself....and then I realized |
|
that what Obama did by urging the senate to keep Lieberman around is to completely humiliate and defeat the arguments that Lieberman used against Obama. If Joey the Rat had said that shit about me I'd be serving his eyeballs to my kitty cats, but Obama made Joe AND HIS CRITICISM irrellevant in one stroke. If there had been a payback, Joe could have used the platform THAT provided to further slime Obama.
Joe is a kept man now. A eunich. He can't attack or undermine Obama now without looking like the ungrateful weasel and traitor he really is. Even the Repunks know that.
I asked that question because there's a sense with a lot of folks here that they are being left out simply by the Obama's cabinet choices.....
I think that he will impose his will on them, not the other way around.
