If the UAW goes down and the big three stay in business |
|
I will never buy another US automobile.
I have owned 15 cars and each one was a US made vehicle.

1. that's just silly - none of the US "made" foreign car names are made by UAW are they? |
|
like supporting foreign non-union car makers is better than supporting non-union American made?
hmm.

3. When there is no union labor to support, I will have no loyalty |
|
I just as well buy the Honda made in the US as the Chrysler. Both would be paying wages for American workers.
The difference is the profit will not be going to some fat cat flying around in his private tin can.
I have continued to buy cars produced by the big 3 in support of union labor. I am not a union member but I realize that the unions are the ones who made work place safety and benefits for the labor force in America what they are.
When the unions are gone, factories in this country will deteriorate to low pay, unsafe, overworked conditions.

6. I think that Ford's partnership with Mazda has something to do with that |
|
Not certain about that but I know some Mazda's are produced in Ford plants.

7. No, but they're better cars. So if I'm not buying for solidarity, then I have no reason to buy here. |

17. Actually, that's not true. |
|
Try moving from 1985 to 2008, please.
American cars are less expensive, better made, easier to fix when they need it (and they ALL need it) and the profits stay in the US.
I, for one, want my manufacturing owned by Americans rather than a foreign companies who may not allow us to use their assets in times of great need, such as a real world war.

Then it will be up to the unions and supporters to get back out there and organize, picket and build it back.It will also be up to our Democratic congress and white house to pass legislation to undo the damage Reaganomics did to labor and make it possible. It might be really tough going, but if it can be done once, it can be done again. :patriot:

8. Hell if you look around this board.... |
|
90% of them seem to want that anyway. I'm an autoworker and it really opens my eyes to be on this board. A lot of you just plain don't give a damn what happens. You just flail around with blind rage and talk about punishment. Has it occurred to any of you that punishment equals job loss? Do you even care? Have you really thought this out? Well i have and i say this with no regrets: If i lose my job because of political grandstanding, i'll find a way to organize every out of work autoworker and we'll cause havoc from now until 2014. So get all of it in now. Go ahead and get all of the feelings of collective punishment in that you can. Go ahead and do it. You can't win without labor help in the key battleground states and with millions of out of work and pissed-off people looking for revenge that congressional majority will be gone. Permanently. an

10. I've been fighting this fight under different screen names for years here. It's a nightmare, |

what some people think about about labor as an economic force, a social force and a political force. Stay strong, brother, and solidarity to you.

14. I agree with you. The seeds of anti-unionism were planted in the Reagan years |
|
and they've borne fruit. But, like the Republican majority, it will wither and die. I do not believe that Congress will let the labor unions go. Maybe I'm being over optimistic, but I think the car companies (and the unions) will be saved, and one key reason I believe this is that Jennifer Granholm is tight with Obama.

15. People don't realize what Labor has done for them |
|
They just don't get it. Even non union companies with the exception of the Wal-Marts provide benefits similar to union companies simply because the unions worked to get those benefits for themselves.
I support unions because I grew up in a union house and worked union for a few years myself.

If we give the money to the Big 3, what is to stop them from declaring bankruptcy anyway, and continuing to destroy the unions, just as they have been doing for years? Have you thought that, unless there is a plan that they are forced to agree with, all that money will buy is just more time for them to plan and shuffle money off-shore? I understand Reid and Pelosi are odious, but if we do not demand at the very least a business plan from these folks, they will take that money, and use it to finally kill off the UAW, as well as make sure that we have no money to spend on any sort of social service. I am NOT saying screw the UAW, I am saying that we cannot play right into the Fat Cat's hands, because that is exactly what they want! They will take the cash, which will evaporate into steam, and then somehow blame the government, and in the process make sure that there is no money to pay for food or medicine for anybody!

9. I drive jalopies, so I take what I can get |
|
But if I was to buy a car I would only purchase a vehicle that was made by employees earning living wages (like in Europe, Japan, or made with UAW labor!).
