The spirit of American workers out of a job |
|
Today I woke up to 12 inches of snow on the ground. My Jeep sits stranded in a driveway, even the 4 wheel drive wont get thru this pile of snow. I sat and contemplated whether I would go out and shovel for a few hours, and then the doorbell rang. It was a young boy, about 10, standing there with rosy cheeks and a firm look on his face. "Ma'am would you like your driveway shovelled?" I looked past the little boy and his dad, who looked pretty young, was sitting in his car waiting for my answer. "How much do you charge? " I asked him. "10 dollars, ma'am". I said yes, and handed him the money, and he and his dad immediately went to work on my driveway. They not only did the driveway, they did the stairs and created paths on the sidewalks. I went back out and handed them 10 more dollars. The dad smiled, and he said "We will come by anytime it snows if you want, ma'am". I told them I would gladly have them back next time as they were such hard workers and I appreciated them doing such a good job. They looked like they were having it pretty rough. Dad needed some teeth, clothes illfitted and used. I live on a meager pension. Nonetheless, I felt I could certainly help this little family out under the circumstances. I am in Michigan, most of the small factories are closed in this town. The unemployment rate is 9 percent, and more in small towns here. I am impressed with this little boy and this man. Hard working people like this should be able to work in this country, and it is damned sad the jobs arent here. Support those people like this in any way you can, I believe in neighbours helping each other now. It shouldnt be so damned rough out there for hardworking people like this man and his son.

to see people having it this rough. the other day I saw where there are homeless camps springing up in the woods near Muskegon MI. and under overpasses in Holland MI. I am shocked, this is new for this area. I am saddened beyond sad. I will open my house to any family who has no place to live , I cannot imagine children having no place to call home. Just need to vent sometimes. :hugs:

First of all, it will make you feel better about the human spirit. Second, you'll feel like you're actually helping the situation (and you will be!). Third, you'll get to know your neighbors. Fourth, you'll get to connect with people just like you who know that giving and receiving are one and the same. And fifth, you'll make friends who are truly of the heart.
