CNBC : Timothy Geithner will be Treasury Secretary
Timothy Geithner nominated as new Treasury Secretary under Obama Administration

Breaking over on CNBC: Timothy Franz Geithner is the 9th president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In that role he also serves as Vice Chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC).

After completing his studies, Geithner worked for Kissinger and Associates in Washington, DC, for three years and then joined the International Affairs division of the US Treasury Department in 1988.

In 1999 he was promoted to Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs and served under Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers.

In 2001 he left the Treasury to join the Council on Foreign Relations as a Senior Fellow in the International Economics department. He then worked for the International Monetary Fund as the director of the Policy Development and Review Department until moving to the Fed in October 2003. In 2006 he became a member of the influential Washington-based financial advisory body, the Group of Thirty.

On 21 November 2008, Geithner was named as the Treasury Secretary for the Obama administration.

Don't know much about him, but it's good Summers din't get the Job. .

1. I read something about him a while back:
He is a low-key, very private family man. He is regarded as fiercely intelligent, even wise beyond his years. He is not considered a snakeoil salesman and he is well-respected across the spectrum of the financial community.

2. experienced bright overachiever...
In his resume, I see Kissinger, Clinton, Rubin, the IMF, Summers, the Fed and Volcker. Better than the stooges Bush has had, but change? I don't see change. I see "status quo" written in 72-point extra bold.

3. Sounds like a safe appointment. Sounds like Obama is avoiding
actually changing much of anything for the moment.

What are you changing, Obama? We believe that you want change as much as we do, but where's the change? Please explain.

Was it just a slogan?

4. It's like shuffling the chairs on the Titanic.
"..worked for Henry Kissinger...member Group of Thirty...He was involved in the Bear Stearns and AIG Bailout and the decision to let Lehman Brothers fail...."
