Prescription for an “Ailing” Industry: Take It Over
We could simply take over the auto industry with the understanding that thousands of engineers and technicians would be mobilized to design and make functional and efficient “green” cars.

And, tens of thousands of auto workers could be put to work building them. Of course, this would not employ all of those about to be laid off. They could be retrained to work in other new green industries, building wind turbines, solar panels, mass transit lines and recycling factories.

It would provide jobs for hundreds of thousands and provide new hope for young people entering the workforce in Michigan, Kentucky, and elsewhere.

1. C'mon. Get real.
How would the government run an auto company any better than people who've done it their whole lives? Look at how well we ran the Iraq invasion.

I can see giving workers more control of their auto plants and of the auto companies, but it just doesn't seem likely that massive government would be any better than rampant capitalism

3. I suggest that almost any administration could run things be they
government or business better than the idiots who have been in power the last 8 years.

4. In the early 1980's, the U.S. bailed out Chrysler on the condition that new management be brought in
The "old" management was incompetent and a bunch of crooks besides.

Lee Iaccoca was brought in to head the company, and he made it profitable and saved jobs at the same time.

The current GM management not only is responsible for bringing the company down due to bad decisions, it was pointed out in another thread that they plan on using any bailout money they get from the U.S. taxpayer to expand operations, and increase jobs, in BRAZIL.

So, if you want to get any benefit from your tax dollars going to the current GM management, then learn Portuguese and travel south.
