Palin knew what was going on 15 feet behind her--allowed interview to continue
Fox News says so
---

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin officially pardoned a turkey for Thanksgiving at a farm in Wasilla, Alaska on Thursday, then conducted a television interview as another bird was clearly seen being slaughtered in the background.

Palin, who called the pardoning experience "neat" was reportedly told by the station videographer what was going on behind her, but allowed the interview to continue.

Uh-huh  that's the best they could do? She had cameras and mics in front of her, the rest of the world doesn't exist in that situation.

2. So.
She shoots wolves and other animals. Not surprising.

And a lot of us eat turkey on Thanksgiving so what's the big deal?!

30. That was my thought.
I mean if it isn't your thing to eat meat fine, but I don't see the big deal because she does and most people do.

4. Palin no longer has a future in national politics. This incident is proof.
The problem isn't so much that *she* wasn't bothered by giving an interview a few feet in front of a guy who was decapitating turkeys; it's that she evidently has no clue that a lot of people (maybe most people) would find such an interview disturbing and weird. So there's Sarah, yammering away like a magpie on crack, right in the middle of a turkey abattoir, thinking she's all charming and clever and delightful, having no idea that people seeing this on television are mostly grossed out, maybe horrified. She's so self-absorbed and provincial that she can't imagine that other people (that's voters, Sarah) don't necessarily see things the way she does. She doesn't see that to be successful in national politics (like she and McCain weren't), she has to appeal to more than her little inbred circle of rubes and religious fanatics. She didn't see that turning campaign events into something like Klan rallies didn't appeal to mainstream voters (even McCain seemed to figure that out eventually), and she obviously doesn't see that giving interviews in the midst of decapitating farm animals won't get her anywhere, either.

7. She totally got manipulated by the new reporters(s)
they kept her "in the shot" for 3 full minutes and even threw in a budget question containing "on the chopping block" in the question. She had no idea what was going on 15 feet behind her.

8. I don't believe that for a minute.
And even if she didn't know at the time, she approved the use of the tape later, even after she knew what was going on.

15. Yes she probably doesn't care or come close to "getting it"
maybe this is part of her image thing...its ALL her image thing

the turkey killed two turkeys in that video (that happens a lot this time of year)
and I would think that he was goaded on by a sound guy or a producer or someone with

"Do it again...your family will see you on TV"

or he just loved that fact that people were going to see HOW their turkey actually gets to the table-I totally understand that dark humor.

31. From the OP
"Palin, who called the pardoning experience "neat" was reportedly told by the station videographer what was going on behind her, but allowed the interview to continue."

Unless it was incorrectly reported she did know what was going on. A better politician would have a better idea of what 'backdrop' they were standing in front of.

Personally I don't care. I eat meat, and I dislike Palin on much more substantive grounds. But I don't think she was manipulated by the camera crew.

Try and falsify some records proving that you've lived here since before the Pipeline, and dummy up some old Alaskan friends. I'll volunteer. :)

People here don't trust "Outsiders," so you have to be prepared for that. There aren't a lot of us, and we're very insular, I'm afraid, but this whole Sarah thing has been educational, at least. We probably would have figured out sooner or later that Sarah's a fraud, but by elevating her to a status that she clearly didn't merit, John McCain hastened the process. For that, Alaskans owe him a debt of gratitude.

Thanks, Senator McCain, for bringing the spotlight to Sarah Palin. She clearly can't handle it.

24. How do you think your turkey gets to your table.
For a place that piles on the vegetarians, it sure gets pretty "animal-rightsy" in here when it helps to ridicule someone Republican. I assume all that are railing against this are pardoning their own turkey and eating Tofurky this holiday.

27. I don't see the problem with children watching that
If they're gonna eat meat, they should know it comes from killing animals. I knew that from about the age of three. I think the disconnect people have with that is a major problem in our society.

29. It seems we are seeing Sarah without the filter of designer cloths, her overlords (RNC)
pro makeup/hair, the handlers, the assistants.

The whole incident still seems so bizarre, I kept expecting SNL rap moose to show up.
