Big Dawg for Senate!!
Since we're going to have Hillary Clinton as SoS and I can see Big Dawg wanting to get back into things, I think that the only sensible thing Governor Paterson can do is appoint Bill Clinton to replace her.

I'm not a fan of HRC, but since the SoS is a done deal, I think it would be awesome for Big Dawg to be in the Senate.

2. "the only sensible thing" ?!
Yeah, there are no actual New York Democratic leaders.

How about Bill Clinton vs. Laura Bush.

14. isn't Schumer a native NYer
I wasn't happy that Hillary used NY to boost her career (the only time I ever voted R was against her because I was sick of the town being shut down whenever they were around).

She proved me wrong, and was my senator until 2007 when I moved. I think Bill would be a good choice to fill her seat.

7. No, it wouldn't.
Andrew Johnson was appointed to the Senate by the State Legislature of Tennessee six years after he left office as President.

13. Keep forgetting him....
although it was only for 5 months until his death, stroke, it was still the first President to Senator.

11. Never happen. He's in his 60s.
Pretty bizarre call there.

He won't get the Senate seat, either. I could see him as UN ambassador, but he probably won't take any appointed position.

12. He'd be great but that would never happen
The chances of a 62 year old man with a heart condition being appointed to the Supreme Court are absolutely nil, no matter what his credentials for the office may be.

Actually I think Bill could be helpful to HIll in her new job, I am just feeling more snarky that usual this evening.

28. Apparently NY is just a mere stepping stone for bigger and better things
God forbid we should actually have someone represent us. I'm about tired of this shit. The Clintons are not the end all to be all of politics and that certainly applies to NY politics. We had people able to run for Senate before the Clintons decided to move here and use us as a stepping stone for Sen. Clinton's Presidential run. We'll manage just fine should she get SOS too. And we don't need her husband in the Senate to represent us we have plenty of Democrats whose name isn't Clinton who is willing and able to do the job.

Regards

29. yep, D-SteppingStone
I'm glad I'm not the only NYer who feels this way. Shortly after I joined DU I was told I was nuts and that "we" (whoever their royal we referred to) had chosen her for the position. Most of what I see on DU is desperately looking for ANYTHING else for HRC to do other than represent NY.

I had heard good things about her work with agriculture and higher ed in NY, but now I think, nope, it really was just a stepping stone, the effort those people put into her Senate office was kind of a waste.

someone (H2Oman maybe?) suggested Hinchey for Senate. I could get behind that!

27. We had plenty of Democrats who could have run for Senate before the Clintons moved here
And if they should decide to leave the state we have plenty of Democrats who can and will serve. What we do not need to do is feed at the Clinton trough to fill vacancies in our government. There are plenty of Democrats who actually lived and served the state for years before the Clintons showed up on our doorstep. Please for fuck's sake stop acting as though we don't have any Democrats to run for office in our state! It's insulting and demeaning to the good Democrats who have been part of the NY political scene for years before 2000.

The way you people fawningly try to fill our offices from Governor, Senator, to Mayor of NYC with the Clintons you'd think the state was bright red before the Clintons arrived.

Regards
