Business big shot: Arianna Huffington, online entrepreneur
Source: Times Online

Arianna Huffington looks set to cement her position as the Queen of Capitol Hill in the next few days.

The Times has learnt that the Huffington Post, her influential political website, will confirm within the next week that it has completed a $15 million (£10 million) fundraising from investors.

The money will finance the expansion of HuffPo, as it is known, into the provision of local news across the United States and into more investigative journalism. And it will ensure that Ms Huffington's influence continues to spread across the US political scene.

She is a close friend of Barack Obama, the President-elect - who, with Hillary Clinton, has posted on her site - and, at a dinner in London on Wednesday night, joked: “I only text three people - my two teenage children and Barack Obama.”

1. She got into to this late but had a class A site when it started up
For a while I sent them stories I found because they were behind
the times but now they have bypassed Dredge in its importance and scoops

One of my favorite sites now. Gratz to her

5. He should use his "influence" for our side. We'd forgive him too.
Not.

4. Love HuffPo.
But do not like Arianna getting too ambitious. Her website is terrific, she should stick to that and that only.

7. It's People magazine plus The Nation
And not as good as either.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see the magnificence that others see in it. There's little or no real journalism practiced there. That's okay, but it doesn't make it a valuable source of information.

It's nice to see that Jamie Lee Curtis and Alec Baldwin are literate and politically insightful, but they're still only there because they are celebs. Huffington Post is a rich woman's vanity blog, the rich woman being Huffington. I'm glad she's a lefty these days, but it's a remarkably vapid place.
