The bigots on the Right & Univeral Health Care

I work in an occupation where 90 percent of the people tend towards bigottry and hatred of the left. I have been listening to their complaints about a national healthcare system for years. Besides the fact that they think it will raise taxes too high, a very big issue seems to be that they will be "forced" into long lines and long waiting periods with minorities, the handicapped, Gays and other people whom they despise. Anyone else here have the same problems listening to these bigots and homophobes? PS: most of these blue-collar people listen to the haters on the right like Rush, Hannity and Savage.

2. RW propaganda has done it's job well. They are the ones who use the

scare tactics you outlined to turn people away from NHC. You need to learn your facts and show them where they are wrong. I put up a thread that has facts about this yesterday. However, our coalition does not have the lobbyists and publicists the insurance industry has to do smear propaganda. We have to do this from a grass roots level. Making your self informed is the first step then spreading the facts is the second. You can have an effect if you do this. Considering that you have your work cut out for you good luck and this website will give you all the information you need to fight them with facts.

These people believe everything they hear from Fuax News and El Rusbo. Even after all the drugs he has been found to be useing these people give him a pass. I think they are brainwashed beyond repair.

You have to knock it down item by item. No it will not cost more it will cost half of what we spend now once the system is implemented. There are statistics that bear this out at the website I have pointed you to. Start with that. Have them give you sources of statistics from Rushbo. I'll bet there are none or they are from some blog that has no credibility once you trace the information. There will be no waiting in lines except in unusual circumstances. If that were true every country that has NHC would have those waits. I mean make google your friend. It's all there. As far as them having to hang out with gays and others they don't like, point out that they are riding elevators and buses and shopping alongside them in the market anyway on a daily basis. Make them look foolish.

8. I think know their problem

They have the money to afford healthcare, so there fore they believe they are entitled to it, whereas everyone who doesn't have money isn't entitled to it. To them, it makes the lines shorter. Fuck the other people, fuck to 50 million+ uninsured, I don't care about them, it's all about ME! That's the attitude of so many of these numbnuts.

What we need is for all of them or someone they love to get something ugly that requires longer or more expensive medical treatment. (But not die, I'm not that cold. :) ) That seems to get the message to most of our RW politicians. Worked for stem cell research (advocated by Right wing as Ronnie was on his deathbed after a wish by Nancy Reagan), medical coverage for New Yorkers (Giuliani got cancer. He at least admitted that changed his view) and Dick Cheney (ever wonder why a man who represented the state that Matthew Shepard died in doesn't have an issue with homosexuals? Dick Cheney's daughter Mary is a lesbian. Hard to hate gays when your daughter is one.) These guys need it to hit home before they stop acting like assholes.

9. Two major planks of the opposition to universal health care

Racial bigotry. Basically, it's "I don't want to pay for health care for some damn *********!" Insert favorite racial slur du jour.

Sex. Plain and simple. The religious nuts know that universal health care MUST include full health services for women, including contraception, emrgency contraception (morning after) and abortion. If it fails in that, it won't be truly "universal." Also, of course, is the coverage of STDs. "They" think that everybody that makes less than 40k a year has some form of STD and will flood the clinics with their evil social diseases. Never mind that efficient access to healthcare will most probably reduce incidence of STDs. :shrug:

As was said above, facts won't shake their faith that universal health care is a basic evil. Willful :dunce:
