Chambliss Skips Vote On Unemployment Benefits While Giving A Campaign Speech On Unemployment
from ThinkProgress:

Chambliss Skips Vote On Unemployment Benefits While Giving A Campaign Speech On Unemployment»

On Thursday, Georgia’s Department of Labor announced that the state’s unemployment levels rose to 7 percent in October, the highest in 16 years; approximately 43,093 unemployed Georgians are looking for work. That same day, Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), who is locked in a tough run-off election battle with Democrat Jim Martin, gave a campaign speech on the state’s economic troubles:

It’s imperative that we continue down the road of putting liquidity, integrity and confidence back in the financial marketplace so that we can see the credit market free up and people having the ability to borrow money to to operate and expand their businesses.

However, Chambliss was so busy campaigning that day that he actually skipped the Senate’s vote on the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008, which extended unemployment benefits “by 13 weeks in states with an unemployment rate of at least 6 percent.” Chambliss was one of just four senators to miss the vote. WCTV reported that Chambliss later sent out a press released praising “the passage of the law and hopes it will help laid-off workers get by while seeking a new job.”

Yesterday, WXIA in Atlanta said that Chambliss claimed he would have voted for the bill anyway. Watch WXIA’s report: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/11/22/chambliss-unemployment/

Chambliss has been pulling in a parade of high-profile conservatives to campaign for him at the last minute, including Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, and next week, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

1. Saxby WHY?
I live about as far from Georgia as possible, but hate Saxby
for the way he treated Max Cleland.
Can someone tell me why we should feel any connection to
Georgians who were dumb enough to put this rotten SOB in
office in the first place? Does noone in that state not get
it that this bastard is nothing but a thuggish bum with not a
single atom of good character?
At some level, I think all you Georgians and Saxby deserve
each other, but overall, it is a hell of a lot more important
to get this turkey out of office and keep him out of office
for good.

8. Ok, here goes:

Saxby was "elected" in 2002 - the first year that the state went to Diebold. We've all heard about the "steal Georgia" patch that was placed in some computer systems on election night 2002.

People don't like to bring it up anymore, but I do every freakin' time we get someone new who tells us we're all dumb hillbillies for putting this rotten SOB into office in the first place - before the election, Max Cleland and our governor at the time Roy Barnes had double digit polling numbers for the election. Exit polls backed up the double digit numbers, but miraculously come the next morning, the numbers were flipped and Saxby and the other idiot Moran SonnyBubba Perdue had somehow triumphed.

I'm sure you're right. Not one single person in this whole state realizes that he's a thuggish bum. NO - we realize he's the biggest piece of shit to ever sit in one of Georgia's Senate seats and we're trying really hard to boot his ass out.

We are not that stupid. It was stolen from us. Give us a goddamned break.......

9. Thank you RubyD, for explaining it so well. Now I don't have to.
I spent the afternoon putting Martin signs out in this Georgia county, increasing the numbers of signs six-fold over what we had on Nov. 4. I'll spend Tuesday morning phone-banking for Martin.

And Hey, oldnslo: "At some level, I think all you Georgians and Saxby deserve
each other..." That's more than a bit like saying that all U.S. citizens deserved G.W.Bush.

Think about it.

11. I know you're just spouting off, but what you said is pretty offensive
Edited on Sun Nov-23-08 08:01 PM by Concerned GA Voter
Georgians like myself deserve Saxby about as much as 100% of Americans deserved George W. Bush.

Get off your high-horse. It's obnoxious.

On edit: Tosh, I swear I didn't see your post before I posted...

Oldnslo--How about quit attacking people based on where they live and put that energy toward helping kick Saxby out of office?
