2,200 South Korean housewives make 130+ tons of kimchi for the poor

Volunteers make kimchi, traditional pungent vegetable, to donate to needy neighbors for winter preparation in front of the Seoul City Hall Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008. About 2,200 housewives made 130 tons (117 metric tons) of kimchi. Made with cabbage, other vegetables and chili sauce, kimchi is the most popular traditional food in Korea.

On Thursday, some 2,200 volunteers — South Koreans and foreigners — braved a cold snap to make 143 tons of kimchi from 58,000 heads of cabbage, said Kim Sung-tae, a Seoul government official.

The yogurt drink maker Korea Yakult Co. has held the annual event since 2001 as part of a charity campaign. The volunteers will deliver the kimchi to 13,000 needy households in Seoul, Kim said.

3. Cheers to them!
I wish I could help them. I truly believe that if all people had such spirit, the entire world would be a really decent place. Bless them.
