"Leave Mike Vick along. I worry that unforgiving animal lovers will pound this guy..."
Huffington Post reader comments in reaction to their AP story, "Witness: Vick Forced Family Pets To Battle Killer Pit Bulls For Laughs"

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/22/witness-vick-forced-famil_n_145770.html

Head-Liner

Leave Mike Vick along, if you live in a glass house you should watch your mouth. IMO, this whole thing about dogs is ludicrous. Vick is currently paying his price to society for breaking the law. But I didn't think he deserved jail time for this. Was it a Sin? Dogs don't have souls. Not everybody (Americans) value dogs the way some do. There are many more so called cruel things going on in this country that IMO are more important. Now, I think he should have been punished only because there is a law forbidding his actions. But I am going to continue to support him as an athlete and hope that he is giving a second chance to play in the NFL. But I worry that unforgiving animal lovers will continue to pound this guy for the rest of his life because they don't want to concentrate on their own imperfect lives...

Your comment is so totally insane I have to believe you are just trying to be ironic. If this is truly how you feel I'm afraid it's you that doesn't have a soul... or a conscience.

Some people don't deserve second chances and Michael Vick is one of those people. I suppose even if the NFL is too cowardly to disassociate themselves with him the companies that endorse athletes and thus provide them their fortunes will never endorse him and that is at least one punishment.

You are way out in left-field, Head-liner. These particular behaviors are completely beyond the pale. That's the reason why Vick is now, and will be for quite a long time, a total pariah.

I really wish people would leave this man alone. He has paid a huge price. A price that I don't think fit the crime. I don't condone what he did. But I do value the life of a MAN more than I value the life of a dog. You may think I'm wrong... but if you, I hope you have never eaten a cow, a chicken, a fish, or any other protein source that may have suffered on its way to your dinner plate... and I certainly hope you do not hunt for sport, because anything else is sheer and unmitigated hypocrisy.

I do not hunt. Hunting is only necessary if you need the food. Otherwise it is not a sport where every thing is stacked in the hunter's favour-it is murder in my eyes. The dog fighting is despicable because you are causing UNNECESSARY PAIN TO LIVING CREATURES WHO LOVE HUMAN BEINGS UNCONDITONALLY. and the dogs are doing the fighting for the love of their owners

You people act like he killed HUMAN BEINGS! IT APPEARS MOST OF YOU ON THIS BLOG DON'T VALUE HUMAN LIFE AT ALL... I THOUGHT HUMAN LIFE WAS THE HIGHEST AMONG HUMANS.... But it appears some of you don't think highly of human life and you all value a animals life over a human. In Detroit, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans young men die everyday and there is NO uproar on the slaughter of people and most of their murders go unsloved. But a ignorant low class football player who has a dog fighting ring is castigated and given prison time. But animal horders and puppie mill owners are never given jail time. I wonder why????

20. he deserves to suffer the same fate he laughingly inflicted on the dogs
He won't get what he deserves, because we are a much more civil society than he.

Vick won't get what he deserves. A life sentence in solitary would be a slap on the wrist for the dirt ball crap he is as a person

3. HuffPo has its share of RW trolls
I know; I enrolled there for the sole reason of getting in my digs against one particularly smelly specimen. In the end, fully 75% of my comments were deleted. It's her website, her choice of how to run it, who to place in positions of authority, and who to allow onboard as members, but it still rankles to see them dropping RW talking points like evil Pez dispensers.

5. "Dogs don't have souls"
Prove it.Or prove the opposite for that matter. But Vick is a proven sociopath and he deserves far

more than what he got.

"I do value the life of a MAN more than I value the life of a dog" Is he dead yet ?

"I THOUGHT HUMAN LIFE WAS THE HIGHEST AMONG HUMANS" We're only at the top of the food chain...for

now.

sick.

But for that soul thing I'm not convinced that humans have one either so...

14. IMO, condoning the throwing of helpless animals in a pit to be torn apart,
is akin to condoning child molestation. Anyone who sees it and thinks it's OK is less than an animal himself.

25. I stubbed my toe on the foot of my bed this morning, at which point...
I looked more closely at it, and discovered that the foot of my bed possesses a soul! I was so gratified. I know not everybody is a foot-of-bed person, but I am. And it makes me feel oh-so much better knowing that my beloved foot-of-the-bed will eventually end up in foot-of-the-bed heaven - where there are plenty of unshod toes, and they never learn to go around.

The people I really feel sorry for are the foot-of-the-bed heavenless people. Their lives must be so empty not having that comfort.

1) dogs are the moral equivalents (or even superiors, to some DUers) of people, and
2) Judgement Day will come because everyone isn't a vegetarian.

Since being a person is a precondition for playing the morality game at all in the first place.
