So...I need a converter box
for my old tv which still works fine but uses rabbit ears. But I have to go to a government site to apply for a $40 off coupon. The site is https://www.dtv2009.gov/ . Maybe it's just me, but I don't like any government site that asks for my personal information (name, address). I know, I KNOW, I'm just paranoid!!!!! So sue me. But my question is, is there any other way to get a coupon??

1. Don't They Already Have
every piece of personal info on you already?

Get the coupon - it's worth the savings.

2. Not without giving the info... I think there is a phone number to call
I frankly may skip the coupon, especially since it is not clear the coupon is usable for upgraded converter boxes and if I'm going to hook up my last remaining tv/LCD monitor,I may as well get a decent one. I watch little tv and would really prefer to have a USB device for my laptop, which exist, but are about $180... And, the coupon can't be used for it.

On the other hand, they know where you are, regardless...

3. Do you have to have a coupon to purchase the box?
If you don't want to leave your name and address the best bet would be to go into Radio Shack and pay the $40 in cash. When they ask for your name and address...refuse. I love the look on clerks faces when I do that.

5. No, you don't need the coupon
so I guess I'm weighing is my perceived sense of privacy worth $40?

4. Each applicant can obtain up to two coupons. So,
do you have an acquaintance that only needs one but will apply for two and pass one along?

7. Excellent idea
Maybe my mom can order me one. She's 83 and doesn't care if the government knows what color underwear she wears.

11. Have her include that piece of information when she calls it in.
She should make sure they have include it at the end of the call.

10. Or someone that doesn't need any that will let you use their address
and it may be possible to hook up more than one TV to a box. I am not sure since I am hoping for a good sale before I pick mine up.

8. If you file your taxes each year, or have a social security card, they have
that information.

9. If you're that concerned, you can just pay full price.
They're only $45ish normally.
