ADMINISTRATORS et al: So what reason could there be NOW not to have a DUMP CHAMBLISS thermometer up?
URGENT cross-post w/General Discussion: Presidential
(maybe it's time to go back to "General Discussion: Political"?)

There are just a little over TWO SHORT weeks before the runoff in GA between Democrat Martin and Cleland-slimer Chambliss. With already 58 Senate seats, EACH EXTRA SENATE SEAT MEANS A NUMBER OF NATIONAL REFORMS WILL NOT BE ABLE TO BE FILIBUSTERED, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN DERAILED OTHERWISE.

Although Anti=Prop 8 work, and the protest movement (like the estimated 10,000 including me that gathered outside the Mormon Church on 65th & Columbus in NYC Nov 12) around it are urgent, they must grow over time. THIS IS A DEC 2 Deadline.

BTW -- I tried to give to Green Mountain PAC, which is supporting both the Franken Recount and Martin for senate, and my computer froze up, as it did for Sheehan & for Hagan. I think that's a good omen for Franken (to whom, like Martin, I have donated), if I read the tea-leaves right.

Here's info for the Green Mountain PAC for those interested, BUT DU COULD RAISE MORE MONEY AND HAVE MORE CLOUT WITH OUR OWN FUNDRAISING THERMOMETER, FOR WHICH NO REASONABLE EXCUSE FOR ITS LACK EXISTS ANY MORE:

___________________________________________________________________

Dear ... (Cloudy),

Contribute to Jim Martin's campaign and Al Franken's Recount Fund!
The election may be over, but the outcomes of two Senate races -- and our shot at 60 votes in the Senate -- have yet to be settled.

Al Franken trails his Republican opponent by just 215 votes <now said to be down to double digits -- Cloudy> in Minnesota, as state officials commence a mandatory manual recount of every single ballot. And in a race most pundits had written off as an easy Republican win on Election Day, Democratic challenger Jim Martin's strong momentum forced a runoff election in Georgia just 12 days from now.

The Green Mountain PAC community stepped up for Al Franken and Jim Martin in a major way last month, sending over $17,000 to their campaigns when they needed it most. This support made a big difference, but Al and Jim need our help now -- at this critical time -- to keep their campaign operations going strong through December, make sure every vote is counted, and fight for seats in the U.S. Senate.

Please make a contribution to Al Franken's Recount Fund and Jim Martin's runoff campaign today -- and help us reach 60 seats in the Senate!

Al Franken needs to pick up just one vote for every 20 Minnesota precincts to win this race, which is well within the realm of possibility since vote tabulation machines may have undercounted several thousand valid ballots. That's why he has dispatched lawyers and observers to every county in the state to make sure each ballot is recorded according to the "voter's intent," as required under Minnesota state law.

Jim Martin's runoff election in Georgia has attracted a lot of attention in the media lately, and it deserves our immediate attention as well. President-elect Obama has sent a large contingent of his campaign's field organization to lend a hand to Jim Martin, while Republican heavy-hitters like John McCain and Mike Huckabee have flown in to support incumbent Saxby Chambliss. Jim has run a great campaign, and I'd love to see him in the Senate, but he needs our help to get his voters to the polls and win on December 2nd.

Please make a contribution to Al Franken's Recount Fund and Jim Martin's runoff campaign today -- and help us reach 60 seats in the Senate!

A few days after the election, I told you I was "holding out hope" for wins in these unresolved Senate races. But today, we can do more than hope. Our financial support for Al Franken and Jim Martin will set them on course to win their contests in December.

Barack Obama is counting on strong majorities in Congress to back his ambitious proposals to fix our broken economy, expand access to health care, and make America energy independent. So I cannot thank you enough for lending your support to Al and Jim once more as we work overtime in November and December to reach 60 Democratic votes in the Senate come January.

Sincerely,

Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator

P.S. In Minnesota, the hand recount is now underway. And in Georgia, the run-off election is just 12 days away. Please contribute to Al Franken and Jim Martin's campaigns today -- and help them come out on top next month!
