George Soros: "If Obama is wise, he will find common ground with China to solve this crisis."
SPIEGEL INTERVIEW WITH GEORGE SOROS
'The Economy Fell off the Cliff'
November 24, 2008
George Soros, 78, has made billions as a hedge-fund manager and investor. SPIEGEL spoke with him about the current financial crisis, how he expects President-elect Barack Obama to respond to the economic disaster and the responsibilities borne by speculators.

SPIEGEL: We talked a lot about the losers of the current financial disaster. Do you also see winners?

Soros: China could easily emerge as the great winner if the Chinese leaders handle the situation well. On the other hand, they could also turn out to be the biggest losers if they handle it poorly. If the management turns out be wrong, this could lead to a political crisis in China. It's still too early to declare winners and losers.

SPIEGEL: Could Obama be the first "post-American president" -- because his country loses economic force and "soft power"?

Soros: If Obama is wise, he will find common ground with China to solve this crisis. If he wants to do it alone, we will go into a worldwide depression because America is not in a position by itself to clean up the mess it created.

5. 6 year olds with kidney stones
and others sickend with other effects of an industiral chemical used to cheat prices up by pretending it has nutritional value it does not have? That is not something you would bring to the table?

3. You mean negotiate with foreign countries to solve mutual problems, as opposed to acting
unilaterally? That sounds like a plan that hasn't been tried recently. :)

6. Soros is right. The only solution is recycling China's dollar holdings
in a more rational way, and getting our trade balanced.

8. "Fuck China" What A Stupid Response!

"Fuck China" .... what a stupid response .... using the term response loosely.

We'll show those Chinese Mother F...er's!

Do I hear you chanting "U.S.A., U.S.A., U.S.A.!" and holding up the old right-wing "USA #1" sign?

Boy, the right-wing capitalists sure know how to whip you up into a frenzy!

I'm sure that Soros feels really sad over your lack of respect for him .... and Soros probably feels even more sorry for know nothings who haven't the slightest idea of how capitalism works.

So do you think so-called "progressive" American capitalists to go to war with those evildoing reactionary Chinese capitalists?

10. Really? Do you know what fascism is or is it like a cuss word ....
Edited on Mon Nov-24-08 05:51 PM by Better Believe It
used against something you don't like?

You know .... like the fascist Bush, the fascist China, the fascist cops, the fascist fire fighter, the fascist union, the fascist blah, blah, blah.

I think you need to read a few books on what fascism is and how it developed into a mass movement and took power in Europe before World War II.

After you do that, I'll pay attention to your comments regarding fascism because you'll actually understand what you're writing about.

Otherwise is just good old fashioned name calling without political substance.

12. You can have capitalist dictatorships that are not fascist and ....
didn't come to power or remain in power via a mass fascist movement and it's also true that all fascist regimes are of course dictatorships.

We've had many capitalist totalitarian regimes in Latin America, Africa, Asia (south Vietnam during the war) and other places that were not fascist in their methods of rule or economy.

Have to leave now to pick up my wife so perhaps we can continue this later.

If I'm late in picking her up she might establish a fascist household! Well, at least a dictatorship.

:)

13. It does sound like a Bush foreign policy tactic, doesn't it? Just say,
"Fuck (fill in the name of the country you want to demonize)!!" Fuck Iraq! Fuck Iran!! Fuck North Korea!! Fuck Venezuela!! Fuck Cuba!!

As progressive Democrats we should, I guess, just use the exact same terminology as Bush and only change the name of the country we want to demonize. (Just kidding.) Let's be glad that Obama has a somewhat more enlightened approach to foreign policy including talking and negotiation with countries with which you have issues and disagreements.
