More on URGENT GA runoff -- PPP survey has Chambliss up 6%, Obama said to NOT be going, etc
Has the Democratic Party at the national level decided to punt the Chambliss/Martin race? Where is Carter? Obama not going to GA --he could at least go and be very nice about it. Even if HE doesn't want to appear too partisan -- must WE at DU follow suit?

I put up posts about this before on BOTH "General Discussion" AND "General Discussion: Presidential". Attention levels could be lower, but we would have to try REALLY hard.

K & R if you think more attention should be focused on the ONE REMAINING URGENT ELECTION in national politics, coming up Dec 2

Here's two pieces from TPM Election Central, which seems to recognize the importance of these elections, to their credit (in contrast to some others):

1. Preaching to the choir here, it's up to the people in GA (Dems) to
make it their business to get out and vote....Dems may surprise you on this. Chambliss is an awful man...

4. No, DU is NOT the choir, in that DU is, like most Democrats OUTSIDE GA, not paying enough attention
to making sure this is a win for the Democrats. This might very well end up being the would-be 60th seat for the Democrats, which would mean the difference between victory and defeat for much of Obama's program over the next two years. Where is the FUNDRAISING THERMOMETER that I have been advocating (in another almost completely ignored thread, also cross-posted to General Discussion and General Discussion: Presidential? Where is Jimmy Carter? Where are the CALLS to Jimmy Carter to get out there and bullypulpit? It's just TWO WEEKS! I know Carter is getting old, but surely he can do as much as in his two most active weeks campaigning for Obama.

So NO, the notion that this is just up to Georgia voters is the same attitude I got before the election when I said progressives needed to flock (in the final weeks, when it was clear the extra $ from progressive political mavens wouldn't be needed by the cash-flush Obama campaign) to support the Dems in close Senate races and to oppose Prop 8. I said this in a number of places including cross-posted on DU. What happened? progressives basically ignored the approach (from me and whoever else advocated it) but the Mormons understood what was at stake and mobilized (probably illegally, but hey -- they are powerful, and rules are just to be enforced on shmucks like us), and probably were decisive in the victory of that noxious provision. OUT OF STATE MONEY FROM THE MORMON CHURCH AND ITS PARISHIONERS FROM OUTSIDE CA WHOM THEY BEGGED
TO DONATE and the gap between that level of attention from them and from non-gay progressives around the country was probably decisive in the victory of the RW on that ballot measure -- No on Prop 8 was leading in the polls until the final weeks of advertising push

2. I responded to a fundraising post a while back -- and I've read there are quite a few...
Obama campaign people on the ground there.

I do wish we could win this one -- for the seat, and for payback for Max Cleland.

K&R.

5. Have given a lot of money to Martin's campaign...
Run-offs typically are turn-out affairs. Obama's measured response may be an evaluation that as much as he might help our turn-out his presence may energize the repug base.

Probably, the Dem strategists are betting on depressed Repugs staying home.

We'll see.
