The first thing I wondered is if she is taking any osteoporosis medications - some of them have been found to have a weird side effect that causes disintegration and loss of jaw bone.

Broken jaws is just not something you hear about too often normally. When I was little, my cat had a broken jaw when she was hit by a bicyclist. Her jaws were wired shut and I had to spoon feed her babyfood.
