Not only does Bush not talk to his enemies, he does not talk to his friends either
Just heard this stat this AM. In 8 years, the Bush's have had 6 state dinners. Let me repeat, in 8 years the Bush's have had 6 state dinners. :wow:

State dinners happen after meeting with foreign leaders and are a chance to do some happy diplomacy.

What the heck have these neo cons been doing, sitting in the basement and hiding from the sun?

2. But do we know how many were attempted?
Could it be that foreign leaders think that puking on dinner guests' legs runs in the family?

15. I don't fault GHWB for that. I'm amazed it doesn't happen more often on those tours.
FDR got an intestinal bug at the Teheran Conference, I believe. He just turned green at a dinner.

9. Look, talking is not his strong point......
Every time he opens his trap, he fucks up, or the market goes down, or someone dies, or he gets caught in another lie, or some CIA agent is outed, or he praises someone who turns out to be an idiot. Face it, he would have done a much better job of being president if he had been a deaf-mute. He doesn't listen to anyone other than Cheney anyway.

11. I saw a show on PBS last week on the Queen's trip to the US
back in 2007 for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown. It showed behind the scenes set up for the white tie state dinner at the WH in her honor. Both Chimp and Laura were interviewed. The Chimp admitted that he hated dress up events but he did it because it was the Queen of England, blah, blah, blah.

Of course, it's well known in D.C. that the Bushes don't socialize and that the Chimp goes to bed at 9:00 and doesn't like staying up past his bedtime. He caused a major incident in Russia when he was at a formal dinner event with a tour of a famous museum after the dinner. The Chimp practically ran through the exhibit - literally, he spent about 15 minutes there - and then he was off to bed, royally pissing of Putin and his other hosts.

Washington society has been dead since the Bushes came to town and I think the town is looking forward to a couple who acts more like Camelot than the Beverly Hillbillies. I think we'll see a WH that regularly entertains artists, writers, diplomats, world leaders and celebrates culture. The country could use a little glamour now and I think the Obamas will deliver.

14. And the Queen LOATHES him. The contrast between the Bushes and the Obamas - and Clintons...
is HUGE. Bush has had a bad attitude about the job from Day One.

And it's contributed to his isolation.

When you go back and read about the Roosevelts - how many newspapers each read every day - how many people they talked to - how many people whose letters they read - etc. It's just amazing how informed they were and carbonated to do it.

After an eight year drought, we'll have that again.
