Ford Plant In Brasil Question
I received the following email, and my question is- why would the UAW not want this type of plant? (I am a big union supporter myself) and if true I'd like to know the rationale.

This is a video of a new Ford plant in Brazil . One look at this and each of you will
instantly be able to tell what is wrong with the manufacturing plants of the US car
makers and why there may never be another one built in the US. It will
also point out why more will go off shore.

1. most of the sub assembly suppliers are not union
i think the chrysler plant in belvedere illinois is more advanced. Daimler put almost a billion dollars in rebuilding the plant and other facilities on their site. the lines can produce all models of jeeps and the caliber. several major suppliers are with 50 miles of the plant. of course there is going to be a reduction in the labor force but someone has to build and maintain the robots. the question is who builds the robots....

2. OK But If They Are Using Non-Union Suppliers Anyway,
wouldn't the increased productivity help and the suppliers could always organize - they have the right.

5. one of the suppliers i know of have keep out the union for 40 yrs
they pay decent wages, retirement, and cheap health care costs. they even supply a doctor 8 hours a week for free...hard to unionize this company...one of the oldest in the usa...there`s a trophy named after them..

4. Even worse, Ford is going to spend $1 billion of US bailout money in Brazil.
I shit you not. Borrowing money from China to invest in a factory in Brazil so that US jobs will be eliminated? All involved should be strung up by their thumbs.

11. I furnished a link upthread.
I supplied a link upthread. I don't know of any fact checking that has been done, and sources do not include familiar publications, now that you mention it.
