Al-Kida Suicide bombers could target New York Subways
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Federal authorities have received a "plausible but unsubstantiated" report that al Qaeda may have discussed targeting transit systems in or around New York City, the Department of Homeland Security said.

Al Qaeda suicide bombers could target New York City subways, federal security officials say.

"These discussions reportedly involved the use of suicide bombers or explosives" on subway or passenger rail trains, according to a joint DHS and FBI statement issued Tuesday.

"We have no specific details to confirm that this plot has developed beyond aspirational planning, but we are issuing this warning out of concern that such an attack could possibly be conducted during the forthcoming holiday season," the statement said.

The uncorroborated information indicates al Qaeda may have discussed in late September targeting New York transit systems, DHS spokeswoman Laura Keener said. She said the memo was issued as a precaution so that local officials could make decisions appropriate for their areas.

2. Smarten Up
I dont like the administration but there were people killing americans here (wtc attack in 93) and abroad.

Some of this is quite real. Just like the spanish attack.

So get your head straight and be prepared to deal with it. The new administration will be more practical and smarter about it, but the problem will still exist.

4. Scare tactics? For what purpose?
I can see the NYC cab drivers having a motive but other than that, where is the gain?

11. Simple. Cheney wants a diversion
People are getting really serious about questioning WH Terror tactics.

The Cheney Administration needs to push people back across the 'Do Anything, But Keep Me Safe!' line.

12. al-Kida sounds like a kids' version of al-Qaeda.
Leaders matter. When you have a leader on TV constantly stoking fear, people will be more inclined to panic.

And, yes, our troops have killed several #2s in al-Qaeda. For some reason they keep on finding viable & eager replacements.
