This is the kind of stuff that needs cutting. How much more plundering of our treasury like this has been going on during 8 years of the Bush regime? A lot I bet. And one thing I have learned in my 53 years is that once someone steals something like these wealthy thieves have managed to do it is awfully hard to get them to give it back. Damn hard. I bet they are already figuring out ways of hiding it somewhere.

Obama to make more economic announcements today

TRANSITION | Obama says budget picks know how to cut fat from spending

<snip>Praising Orszag's credentials, Obama said, "Peter doesn't need a map to tell him where the bodies are buried in the federal budget. He knows what works and what doesn't, what's worthy of our precious tax dollars and what is not. Just because a program, a special interest tax break or corporate subsidy is hidden in this year's budget does not mean that it will survive the next."

Obama had said Monday that he would be discussing cutting the federal budget Tuesday. But the only specific cut he mentioned was overpayments to "millionaire farmers."

"There's a report today that, from 2003 to 2006, millionaire farmers received $49 million in crop subsidies even though they were earning more than the $2.5 million cutoff for such subsidies," Obama said.

"If this is true, it is a prime example of the kind of waste I intend to end as president," he said.

1. That's exactly the sort of welfare I've wanted to cut for years.
