Tax revenue of the United States is about two and a half billion dollars per year, that's $2.5 Trillion dollars. That is a good number to keep in mind as you see news of ever higher bills to bail our the economy. When we are working and earning we pay that much into taxes with today's rates and yesterday's level of employment. When we talk about borrowing $5 trillion or $7 trillion dollars what we are saying in essence is that for the next two to five years we are willing to pay taxes at the rate we did last year and receive absolutely no Government service or protection for it.

Just wanted to add a little perspective.

3. I also wonder how the market crassh will impact tax revenues, even at the low rate that capital
gains are taxed.

There has to be a hit on revenues collected by the IRS.
