3. Why do you hate America?
Don't you know that 70% of the economy is service based? All the poor unskilled workers who used to have decent jobs at a factory - when we had those - now work for peanuts at the mall?

Actually, it is the credit cards company that hate America, raising interest rates to really keep shopper to - gasp - live within their means.

4. I have a confession to make . . .
. . . I hate the Christmas holiday season and wouldn't mind in the least seeing it relegated to the trash bin of holiday celebrations.

There, I said it.

6. But leave all the lights
After all, this is how Christmas and Hanukkah started. Trying to put some lights during the winter solstice.

A few years ago we were ambitious and would take a walk after work which, by then, was pitch dark around this time of the year. We live in a suburb where there are street lights only at the intersections. So all the houses that were full of lights made it easier to, at least, spot a herd of deers.

No, we do not put lights on ours, though, but if people want it, hey, we enjoyed their generosity.

9. To clarify
It's not the tree, xmas dinner and lights that I hate, it's going into every friggin store in town and hearing xmas music being blasted into my poor sensitive brain. That and the commercials, marketing and general commercialization of the holiday. I agree about the lights. It's beautiful. If we could just get the beauty back into it I'd be a happy camper.

There was an amazing spec-fiction book I read years ago, the title of which I can't remember, that had several modern day people going back to medieval times and the description of what Christmas was in a small village in Europe then was just beautiful. Bringing light to the darkest days of the year. Community gathering. Warmth in the midst of freezing cold.
