I told off a republican today
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 02:31 PM by loyalkydem
Guess what I did today

I spoke to my conservative friend today. Normally, I don’t talk about politics with him but when the conversation of Obama came up, he spit out that crap about O’bama being a Muslim again.

Naturally I had it with his lies and I called him out on his shit. I pointed out to him that there’s no proof that Obama was ever a Muslim. He has said from day one that he was a Christian. I asked him where is your proof?

He then proceeds to tell me that when he was in Kenya, he read the Koran and practiced it. I said, “wrong” just because someone reads the Koran does not mean they are a Muslim, just quit trying to equate the man to something that he isn’t. Misconception is exactly the reason why your side lost November 4th.

He then goes on to say that racism died on November 4th. Again, I told him not exactly. I pointed out all the hate field messages that were being posted all over the south. The threats against his life and you’re going to tell me that racism died on November 4th?

Let’s just say he changed the subject very quickly after that.
I feel so good because he likes to argue facts and he couldn't produce any after I put him in his place.

Sadly, most hotels also have no fireplace. So it's a bit of a wasted effort.

19. I wasn't aware that Maine & NJ are in the South....gotta get me a new map!
Just one issue with your argument -- it hasn't been just the South.

(snips)

From California to Maine, police have documented a range of alleged crimes, from vandalism and vague threats to at least one physical attack. Insults and taunts have been delivered by adults, college students and second-graders.

Other incidents include:

Four North Carolina State University students admitted writing anti-Obama comments in a tunnel designated for free speech expression, including one that said: "Let's shoot that (N-word) in the head."
Second- and third-grade students on a school bus in Rexburg, Idaho, chanted "assassinate Obama," a district official said.
University of Alabama professor Marsha L. Houston said a poster of the Obama family was ripped off her office door. A replacement poster was defaced with a death threat and a racial slur. "It seems the election brought the racist rats out of the woodwork," Houston said.
Black figures were hanged by nooses from trees on Mount Desert Island, Maine, the Bangor Daily News reported. The president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas said a rope found hanging from a campus tree was apparently an abandoned swing and not a noose.
Crosses were burned in yards of Obama supporters in Hardwick, N.J., and Apolacan Township, Pa.
A black teenager in New York City said he was attacked with a bat on election night by four white men who shouted 'Obama.'
In the Pittsburgh suburb of Forest Hills, a black man said he found a note with a racial slur on his car windshield, saying "now that you voted for Obama, just watch out for your house."

I am a conservative and hold no allegiance to the Republican Party. My vote went to John McCain and
as we all know he lost. (McCain was not have my choice in the Primaries)
It important to know that not all conservatives who did not want Obama to win are Racist.

I do not believe in his policies, his belief in wealth distribution and I certainly am concerned about
some of his close friends and connections.

I will however support him because I don't want him to fail.

30. what associations are you so concerned about?
Can you engage in a fact-filled debate on this issue? Please note that I will be firing back with a list of criminals and terrorists whom McCain, Bush, et al are VERY closely aligned with -- so please be prepared to tell me why those associations do not count but Obama's alleged whatever do. Also, please be prepared to discuss Palin's AIP ties, their ties to terrorists and white supremists, and the John Birch society -- you should be prepared to argue why it's alright for a so-called conservative to violate the constitution by advocating for secession as well as publicly proclaiming America a "christian nation" and calling for "holy wars". Please explain how that is American and adheres to the very foundation of this country. Lastly, I'd like to discuss why so called conservatives are so attached to going around making sure they are not called racists. Sadly, Palin's rallies made so called conservatives look like fringe element losers whose racism was sort of the least of their troubles, if you know what I mean. If your party acts like racists and does racist things (as over 10 official offices of the GOP did during the GE with mailers, not to mention the hate on GOP senators websites, etc which was addressed by our govt and found to be horrifyingly hate-filled and incorrect to boot)-- well, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it probably is a duck. the GOP always uses race as an issue in their southern strategy, and it's won elections for them for a long time. It didn't work this time.

you may not be a racist, but the fact that your reasons for not voting for Obama have almost all been disputed and found FALSE by snopes and other impartial organizations makes this claim suspect to say the least. Do you have a reason that hasn't been debunked?

Oh, and welcome to DU.

He's someone who could definitely be described as a domestic terrorist. And talk about unrepentent! He called for Federal Agents to be shot on his radio show. McCain is a helluva lot closer to Liddy than Obama ever was to Ayers.

59. Not vote for people like McCain and Palin, that's for sure.
The U.S. and the entire world are in a precarious situation necessitating calm, rational, and intelligent leadership. This is no time for belligerence and bellicosity (McCain) nor religious extremism and intellectual in-curiosity (Palin) nor rigid adherence to ideology (the neocons who would control both of them). We've tried that already and the results were disastrous.

is the majority of Christians in this country feel the Muslims waged war against them on 9/11 which is exactly WHY we attacked Afghanistan and Iraq back. So in their minds, being a Muslim is as bad as it gets.

50. You just
get tired of their shit after a while. I had been encouraged by so many people to stand up and fight against their smear tactics. There side has been in control for 8 years, 16 if you count the Republican control of the Senate and Congress and look where its gotten us, look where its gotten the world.

46 million people voted for John McCain? Why I ask, is it because he represents conservative values? Is it because he served in the military? My friend uses the ladder as the reason why he voted for McCain plus some stuff that he didn't really like Obama. He claims to be "a capitalist" saying crap like the Government doesn't tell me what to do with my money.

The arguments are lame and if you support shit like that, then more power to you, go live in an area where you will be comfortable with other people, leave the rest of us alone.

60. well, let me say why it seems like the argument of the right makes no sense
when they are called on McCain/palin's ties with AIP, etc they say oh yes, they all suck.

OK, well, why then did you vote for them? There had to be a reason you chose them over Obama.Biden.

Experience? With McCain's age and Palin's absolute lack of experience, that doesn't work.

Rev Wright is a racist? You need to examine the word racist. This meaning has been attributed by white pundits, but if you actually use the definition of racist, you will see the person using race against another must be in the upper position. Thus, to accuse an African American in this country of being racist is hypocritical and indicates something horrific about the speaker. Judge Rev Wright after you and your family have been treated the way AA were treated and are treated here in America. Sorry, but you can't take things out of context irresponsibly like this.

Rev Muthee?

AIP?

You voted for McCain because you're a "conservative"? meaning what? fiscally? because, no, he wouldn't have been your choice if you're a fiscal conservative unless you haven't been watching other than Fox. That leaves "social conservative". Which McCain was not, but Palin was.

So if you were really voting for Palin and you used experience as a reason against Obama, you can see the failure in the logic.
