Paulson Was Behind Bailout Martial Law Threat
http://current.com/items/89564630/paulson_was_behind_bailout_martial_law_threat.htm

Speaking on Tulsa Oklahoma’s 1170 KFAQ, when asked who was behind threats of martial law and civil unrest if the bailout bill failed, Senator James Inhofe named Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson as the source. “Somebody in D.C. was feeding you guys quite a story prior to the bailout, a story that if we didn’t do this we were going to see something on the scale of the depression, there were people talking about martial law being instituted, civil unrest….who was feeding you guys this stuff?,” asked host Pat Campbell. “That’s Henry Paulson,” responded Inhofe, “We had a conference call early on, it was on a Friday I think – a week and half before the vote on Oct. 1. So it would have been the middle … what was it – the 19th of September, we had a conference call. In this conference call – and I guess there’s no reason for me not to repeat what he said, but he said – he painted this picture you just described. He said, ‘This is serious. This is the most serious thing that we faced.’” Inhofe said that Paulson told members of Congress the crisis would be “far worse than the great depression” if Congress didn’t authorize the bill to buy out toxic debt, a proposal “which he abandoned the day after he got the money,” added Inhofe.

1. I think that the bu$h regime has threatened Congress for the last 8 years
We will learn of these someday when the bu$h regime and neocons can no longer hold threats over these people.

3. Well he did say that he would have to 'twist some arms and bang some heads" speaking about
Congress, on 12/18/00. I watched while he said it, standing with the House and Senate Majority Leaders. Of course, he WAS just joking. :eyes:

2. The entire 8 years of this misadministration has been an exercise in intentional theft
It has ALWAYS been their intention to destroy this country and steal from the taxpayers. They have done what people just don't want to get honest about.

13. Eventually we will know all the details about Congress. But it will be too late, I imagine
Edited on Wed Nov-26-08 08:48 PM by truedelphi
Too bad Paulson didn't tell them they needed to turn over their 401K's and their retirement funds, and give up their health insurance plans in order to stave off martial law.

I bet our Congressional leaders would have tried to determine if what they were being told to do was valid or not under those circumstances.

16. Its already too late. We will now be locked into an economy that effectively
strips choice from the taxpayers for the next 20 years. And our "Congress" did nothing and does nothing. Our Justice dept. did nothing and does nothing.

26. The Justice Dept under Bush was so re-organized to
Protect the "Evil Doers' that it is not surprising.

I mean, in all honesty , the fact that Credit Default Swaps (CDS) were indeed insurance, although everyone in the financial institutions carefully avoided using that term, this fact means that the regulatory agencies that oversee insurance should be sued by any and all who lost out by buying either the CDS's or the SIV's taht the CDAS's should ahve guaranteed. But without a Justice Dept to see to it that that can happen, I am not sure where we stand.

10. "They have done what people just don't want to get honest about."
You nailed it down right there. Too many people are too afraid to admit they've been rooked. The Bush/Cheney Misadministration has been one huge Nigerian Check Scam... and the people that bought into it are too ashamed to admit it.

7. How anyone could believe that $700 billion would be difference between martial law and fat city ....
It's a tribute to the economic ignorance of most of congress that they believed Paulson.

9. 4% of the Wall Street bailout could end world hunger
The Wall Street bailout is costing taxpayers around $700 billion and growing. Yet, just 4% of the Wall Street bailout could end world hunger. Though the problem is often touted as insurmountable, in truth, global food insecurity could be completely solved by creating agricultural programs that would cost about $30 billion a year. 854 million people in the world – one in seven – do not get enough food to be healthy, making hunger the number one risk to health worldwide.

19. I've Mentioned the Martial law Threat To My R. Congressman As Well
And it of course fell on deaf ears. Strangely enough, my two state Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions both were adamantly against the bailout.

But I guess I shouldn't speak of Republicans actually doing something right for a change around this place. Last time I did that along with mentioning D. Congressman Brad Sherman's comments regarding Martial Law,I was declared as promoting Xenophobia and banned.

21. I'm not quite sure what to think of it all yet
because YouTubes keep surfacing, like the one from the House floor. Now Inhofe. I'll grant that Inhofe is a certifiable wackjob, probably the biggest on the Hill.

We shall see what we shall see. If we thought the election was interesting, wait until we get to housecleaning.

18. Wow ... just ... wow ...

That man hasn't spoken an honest word in his life as far as I can tell, is one of if not the most bizarre, right-wing, idiotic asshats there is in Congress, and no one with an ounce of sense has ever taken him at his word.

Yet, when he speaks something that meets someone's prejudices, he gets a hearing and might just be on to something.

And now you know why Okies vote for the idiot.
