DU'ers in India and Indian DU'ers--we're with you.
I think I can speak for more than just myself when I say, we're holding you in our hearts tonight, brothers and sisters.

I know the media is making a circus of it right now, but I just wanted to say that on a personal level, I am sending every bit of my positive thoughts and good wishes to you, and to your countrymen, friends, and families.

8. I've always had a special fondness for India...
...even though I've never been there, and am not actually that well-versed on the history and culture. I've just always had a fondness for the country. Sending out good wishes.

9. I am an Indian living in US. Thank you everyone
for your thoughts and wishes.

Although my family lives in Delhi - about 1000 miles from the terrorist attacks, I think the whole nation has been affected this time. I just spoke to my sister and mother - and both were quite shaken. My sister was on her way to work - so at least life in Delhi is going on as usual.

I have confidence that Mumbai will come out of this incident stronger and better prepared.

19. Do all these good feelings also go out to the Indians who were given the opportunity
to do your jobs? Everyone on DU is so anti-outsourcing in every way. What about all the people who are not Americans who've benefited so greatly from it? This has always bugged me and the good thoughts seem almost hypocritical.

Sorry. Just had to say that.

20. I'm 'anti-outsourcing'. I also feel for the people under attack.
I also find it ironic that they have draconian gun laws.

they think those people deserve to get killed.

27. The "anger" often voiced here is directed toward the CORPORATIONS
that outsource..They do not outsource because people here were doing a BAD job..or because they cannot FIND anyone who knows how to do the job, or is available to do the job.. They do it because India has a large population of well-educated people...people who are just starting to advance toward what we would call semi-middle class (by OUR standards)..and those people will and DO work for half of what Americans NEED...just to maintain their standard of living..

It's nothing personal..against any one or even a group of people..it's just against the greed.. If corporations outsourced so they could provide their merchandise/service at half the price when they "re-introduced" it back to the US, it would be one thing, but they continually increase their prices..just so they can pocket even more money for themselves & their stockholders..

30. Not really.
Many people talk about how they can't understand the person in tech support and there's an undercurrent, in my opinion, of "Americanism" that implies we deserve the jobs more than others.

I run an outsourcing firm in Kathmandu Nepal. I we do work that would not get done otherwise because of costs. We're not seeing competition from America again because people are willing to work for less.

My point was that there's this outpouring of pro-India and Indians in their time of great distress but we at DU don't seem really willing to see the bigger picture.

Wishing India peace.

Would that they had more people like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar

and
