Obama asks Gates to stay on
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/index.php?sid=434776

US officials have confirmed Defense Secretary Robert Gates has agreed to stay in his job under president-elect Obama.

Gates is a Republican who has served in President George Bush's administration for two years.

The 65-year-old Gates also served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency under Mr. Bush's father, former President George H. W. Bush.

5. Gates agress with Obama that the U.S. should get out of Iraq
and escalate in Afghanistan (that worked so well for the Soviet Union).

The policy of endless war will continue, but the focus will change.

If you don't think Gates with Obama as a boss is going to be a change from Gates with Bush as a boss there's nothing to be done for you.

6. Gates Has Made The Best Of An Awful Situation
He's caught between an insane war and an insane commander-in-chief. He personally writes to the parents of each KIA - he teared up when he mentioned that. I'm amazed at how much Gates has been able to alter the course of that cursed war, without getting fired.

Gates has learned a lot, and has a lot of functional relationships with the key players. It would be a bad idea to have someone else come up to speed on this now, as we're on our way out.

7. Continuity is necessary in a 2 front war.
Guaranteed that his successor is being chosen.
