I would like to propose a "Greybeards" day on Jan 21st
I would like to have everybody who has been here since 2001 to offer their opinions as to why they are still here, how they got here in the first place, how DU has changed, how it has affected them personally, and any anecdotes they would care to mention. Of particular interest to me is why is "Underpants" now hiding the underware?

I think Jan 21 is appropriate because I think we came together as a resistance force to GW and since he is (we hope) history, there is a lot of speculation as to what will become of DU.

I think we have a viable, active, community but I would really be interested in hearing the stories of those who have been here for the duration.

2. Many of the stalwarts are gone
It's a sad thing, but the schisms of peak times and simple attrition have stilled many of the better voices. It's a good idea, though, and it would be nice to think that there's a bit of a homecoming.

Regardless of what my profile says, I first posted in the late spring of '01 and was continually active up through the dropping out of John Edwards this winter. It would be interesting to hear some of the old wags have to say...

3. Oh come on! Ophiwhatever, the Hawiaan guy,
Underpants, Will Pitt, many of us are still here. Maybe we don't post so much but I have seen some of these names for a long time.

6. I can see that I'm not getting much traction
I learned about DU from Buzzflash. In 2001, there was almost no resistance to the Bush Junta. Buzzflash was one of the few I could find. They pointed me to this community and it has helped my sanity ever since.

4. It truly is sad that so many are gone....its been a rough 6 years (for me) and I've lost
a lot of friends along the way.

5. I agree with PoE -- who, by the way, was the first to tell me of this "Democratic Underground"
site on the web, in the early days of the Bush resistance...

Quite a lifeline, then, when the official narratives we were being fed had so little to do with actual reality.
