Primarily Tyendinaga - Brantford????

'DID YOU VISIT YOUR RELATIVES TODAY? IS THIS PALESTINE OR SOON-TO-BE-ONGWEHONWE COMMUNITIES?'

MNN. No v. 25, 2008. It's called "warehousing of surplus humanity". All humans are equal. No one can decide that we are surplus. The object is to remove the target people from existence. This is real, folks!

First, the territory of the targets is occupied. Their communities, work, education, finances and colonial apparatus are controlled by the outside forces. The agenda is carried out by the bureaucrats and military. They are trained in oppression using non-lethal weaponry to stay within the bounds of the UN human rights conventions.

A fascist state needs an uneducated non-resisting people. Etc.

1. Are you referring to Caledonia?
If so, there is a land dispute going on. Natives say they never gave the land up, and have occupied it. For about 2 years now I think, while negotiations are going on.

It's a federal matter, and Harper is dragging his heels as usual.

2. Yes, I think I am referring to Caledonia. I edit a news blog called Native Unity

and the only information I get is from the Mohawk Nation News - edited by two Mohawk women - who are more than militant. I told them if they insist on unsubstantiated name calling that I can't use their copy. I want accurate information - not rabble rousing.

I understand there is some kind of land dispute and also a great deal of friction within the tribe itself, particularly with the police chief who is a Mohawk. The Mohawk women act as though the gov't is overtaking their land in the same way the Israelis are attacking the Palestinians.

I have kinship connections with these people and wonder how accurate MMN is when it comes to their version of what is happening at Caledonia.

6. Yeah, they tend to be a tad militant.
But then they were the subject of a major crisis with the army some years ago, and are probably still tense.

There are quibbles within the 'white' govts, and quibbles within the native groups, so it's kind of a grand mess.

Here's a couple of things that might help.

3. Here is some background info on the dispute....
Caledonia land claim

Here is a link to a CBC page about Caledonia, it has lots of links. CBC is one of the most objective news agencies in Canada, imo:

4. hank you Spaz for the info - Still doesn't make a great deal of sense..
From what I gather the problem started with a builder trying to create a new subdivision on land the Mohawks claim is their territory and the problem has escalated from there with the gov't physically moving in on the dispute.

5. Well the govt hasn't done anything.
The provincial police are keeping the peace, but it's the feds who are in charge of native affairs, land disputes and all that.

And they've been managing to do nothing for about 2 years now. So it just drags on.
